Icewind Dale 2 Enhanced Edition

Finally arrived! Icewind Dale 2 Enhanced Edition is now available for download.

Since the source code was lost over time, ICEWIND DALE II was considered dead, with no hope of ever releasing an enhanced version. That era is over. The Red Chimera Group is a team of modders, coders, artists, and other contributors from the Infinity Engine community who are rebuilding IWD2 using only WeiDU code and hex editing to simplify IWD2's gameplay and introduce new content.

Icewind Dale 2: Enhanced Edition revamps over 300 spells and over 800 items, introduces over 110 new spells, 170 new magic items, and 30 new feats, and allows multiple NPCs from IWD2 to join the party, from the ghostly Veira to Vrek Vileclaw, the river troll to Xhaan, and the white Abisha to Zack Boosenbury and his spider mount Aocha. Even better, IWD2EE has received major quality-of-life improvements, including fast looting and significantly faster loading times.

The mod also solves a major problem that many players had with the original Icewind Dale 2: you no longer have to solve tedious, cryptic puzzles to complete certain areas, enemies in Heart of Fury mode gain powers in interesting ways beyond just having a lot of health, and you can modify the experience system so that you don't get zero experience for killing enemies late in the game. IWD2EE is fully customizable, allowing players to adjust the installation to their liking.

Icewind Dale 2: Enhanced Edition is a free downloadable WeiDU mod. You must have Icewind Dale 2 installed to run this mod. Place it into the IWD2 game folder and run Setup-iwd2ee.exe. After installing IWD2:EE, a new startup program will be added to the game folder: IWD2EE.exe.

You must use IWD2EE.exe and not IWD2.exe to launch the game. If you start the game by clicking on IWD2.exe, the game will crash during character creation or when loading a save game.

Icewind Dale 2: Enhanced Edition uses a new extension called IEex (similar to EEex and ToBEx), which allows IWD2EE to add new features that normally cannot be added via mods, such as new feats. IEex only works when launching the game via IWD2EE.exe. Please note that antivirus programs may detect IWD2EE.exe / IEex.dll as a virus - this is a false positive. After downloading, you should make sure to exclude IWD2EE.exe from your antivirus software.

Other important notes:

IWD2EE is currently only available on Windows.

Do not install the widescreen mod; it will crash the game. IWD2EE includes its own widescreen functionality.

If you find a bunch of feats, spells, and items with empty names and descriptions, it's because you renamed your game folder. You can solve this problem by opening icewind2.ini in notepad and editing the following:
