Hardcore mode - Difficulty mod
🎯Mod Overview
Nier: The Pretender has always had issues with its difficulty balance. The original hard mode just turned the enemies into blood cows and didn't really increase the difficulty, it just extended the combat time. This module aims to solve the following three core problems:
- 🚫Stop using therapeutic items at any time
- 🏃Can escape and use long-range magic
- ⏳ The enemy’s blood volume is too high, causing the battle to take too long
---
⚙️ Module function
Core mechanism adjustment
- **Item Usage**: Using items requires consuming a full MP bar
- **Damage Adjustment**: Increased damage done by players
- **Health**: The player's health is reduced
- **MP RESTORATION**: Slightly recovers MP when hitting an enemy
- **Passive Recovery**: Passive MP recovery speed is slowed down
- **MP upper limit**: MP is fixed at 100
🛠️ Configuration options
All features can be adjusted and disabled via configuration files (game restart required)
---
📥 Installation Guide
Install using Special K Local
- Run the game first and generate the SpecialK configuration file (dxgi.ini or d3d11.ini)
- Add at the end of the file:
```ini
[Import.HardcoreMod]
Architecture=x64
Role=ThirdParty
When=PlugIn
Filename=NieR_Replicant_Hardcore.dll
```
- Place `NieR_Replicant_Hardcore.dll` into the game installation directory
Install using Lunar Tear
- Install Lunar Tear
- Create a folder with any name and put the dll file in it
- Place the folder into `[game]/LunarTear/mods/`
- Run the game once to generate the configuration file
- Enable the plugin in `LunarTear/LunarTear.ini`
Install using Special K Global
- Run the game once through the SpecialK launcher and create a game configuration file
- Go to `SpecialKFolder/Profiles/NieR Replicant ver122474487139/`
- Open `SpecialK.ini` and add the above code at the end
- Move the dll file to this folder
---
🐛 Known issues
- **MP Display Issue**: The MP bar does not display until Weiss is encountered. MP is still calculated normally, but this may affect the judgment of when an item can be used. These sections are short and simple with low impact
---
🔧 Troubleshooting
Common error solutions
- **"The system cannot find the specified file"**: Reinstall the module
- **"DLL not found"**: Reinstall the module
- **"handle is empty"**: Make sure Steam is running before starting the launcher
If the above steps are invalid, or the module does not respond but no error is reported, please contact the author on or GitHub

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
