Daydream Demo (Warband) Brand new story and setting

We know we're promised a Christmas or New Year's release, but you know how it's on deadline. There's more to fix than time to fix. So we moved on a little bit. Please don't kill us.

Help us!

Anyway, today we officially released what we call our little 'demo' mod. As you probably know our whole ambitious goal has turned out to be very ambitious indeed, and we decided it was a good idea to do it between demo releases. Why? Because it allows all of you to experience what we do, and may convince many of you to let us participate in the future development of the mod. There is still much to do and many ideas to explore. So if you're a modeler, texturer, coder, story writer or anything else you think might be of use to us,

mod settings outline

That said, let’s take a look! Daydream Demo is specially built for Warband version 1.143. It encompasses as much as we strive to do. Therefore, we came up with a completely new story and setting that had no place in the original mode. Some of the characters you'll see will play a completely different role in the actual mode we want.

Elves are one of the two main races in the land. They are a people with a glorious and proven history. But their civilization is declining due to constant attacks from the other major faction, those cruel, scrawny, disgusting little bastards. Elven civilization bears the scars of battle: broken stone, quickly fixed defenses, scratched equipment, and more. But they were still far superior in military skills and tactics. Their weakness is their numbers, as opposed to the large number of Orgs.

This environment is a small elf village located on top of a mountain. This village is a little backward, close to the front lines, but has provided the best elven axemen troops to the king's army for centuries.

So, in this village you will be able to play three different battle sequences, which you can access by starting a new game. You'll be able to play as a treasure hunter who's just passing through, a captain of the 5th Ax Troop located in the village to receive new recruits, and a huntress who lives in the village. Each character has their own companion and tasks to complete. Although it always involves slaughtering large numbers of Orgs. Don't worry!

For now, that's all you can do, once you complete the combat sequence you'll be taken back to the main menu. You cannot use the world map or any free roaming. Just a battle of these three scripts. Don't bother checking for quick combat. We don't have any work in this area either.

So why do these options still exist in the menu? Because they are hardcoded, we cannot resolve them.

Even though we spent a lot of time looking for them, we're sure you'll encounter more bugs and issues while playing the game. Hell, you might even meet nema, who's still looking for them... Now we ask you to forgive us for these bugs and report them to us so we can fix them.

Your TROOPS are possible in this demo!

Install

Installation is like you're used to: just unzip and copy the DDW folder to the M&B Warband 'Modules' folder, next to the folder called 'Native'. When launching Warband, make sure the DDW mod is selected in the drop-down list.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
