InscryptionWarning
Highlights on the map which branch matches the Inscryption event's secret code, so the code is actually usable. Configurable halo colour and strength, a badge, or an unmissable marker.
About this mod Author’s original text
InscryptionWarning
A Monster Train 2 mod that shows you, on the map, which branch the Inscryption
story event wants.
The event marks a creature with a secret 3-bit code — the path to take at each of
the next three branches. This mod highlights the matching node at each of those
three branches, and stops once the event is complete.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/InscryptionWarning.cfg
| Key | Default | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Hint.CueStyle | Diegetic | Off, Diegetic (a soft halo behind the node), Icon (a small badge), Debug (an unmissable marker). |
| Hint.CueColor | Gold | Gold, Red or Blue, for the halo and the badge. Debug keeps its magenta. |
| Hint.DiegeticStrength | 0.6 | Halo strength, 0–1. 0.35 is subtle, 0.99 bold. Ignored by the other styles. |
Edits apply live — save the.cfg while the game is running and the next map
redraw uses the new values.
Install
Install SpecialCircumstances-InscryptionWarning with a mod manager (Gale,
r2modman, Mod Manager); dependencies come with it. Manual install:
drop InscryptionWarning.dll into BepInEx/plugins.
Requires BepInEx 5.4.2305.
Known limitations
- Only the most recent Inscryption event is tracked.
- The Diegetic halo sits behind the node rather than tinting it, so it can be
easy to miss. Raise Hint.DiegeticStrength or switch to Icon.
Build
dotnet build
Patches live in InscryptionWarning/patches. Build, environment and deploy
details are in the meta-repo's CLAUDE.md.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
