Chromium
40-50% more FPS in MECCHA CHAMELEON, with the same look.
Almost all of the game's graphics cost comes from two settings: Lumen's global illumination and
reflections on Epic. Chromium holds those two at High. The bounce light and reflections are
worked out at a lower resolution and then smoothed, so side by side the picture looks the same.
| Measured on an RTX 5060, Epic settings, in the lobby | 2560x1440 | 1920x1080 |
|---|---|---|
| The game as it ships | 81 FPS | 121 FPS |
| With Chromium | 120 FPS | 173 FPS |
| 1% lows | 77 -> 111 FPS | 111 -> 143 FPS |
Every other setting was tested too: hardware ray tracing, volumetric fog, motion blur, shadows and
post-processing each made under 3% difference. Chromium leaves them alone, so nothing else looks
different.
Also: "unlimited" really is unlimited
With the game's frame-rate limit set to unlimited, the engine falls back to its smoothed frame rate,
which stops at 62 FPS. With Chromium on, unlimited means unlimited (handy on a 144/165 Hz
screen). Any limit you pick in the game's options is kept as it is.
Good to know
- Only your game changes. Nothing is sent to anyone, so it works on any server, hosting or not,
and other players don't need it.
- Your saved settings are never touched. Chromium changes the settings while the game runs and
never writes them to disk.
- Settings already at High or lower are kept. If you change graphics in the game's options
while Chromium is on, that becomes your new choice; Chromium only steps Epic down to High.
- F7 switches Chromium off and on in the game, so you can compare. A small card at the top
right says what it's doing. It starts on each time the game launches.
Install
With a mod manager ( Mod Manager / r2modman): install Chromium. Its dependency, the
MECCHA CHAMELEON UE4SS package, comes with it.
By hand: install UE4SS's experimental build for Unreal 5.6. Then copy the mod folder from this
package into UE4SS's Mods folder and rename it Chromium, so you end up with
Mods/Chromium/enabled.txt and Mods/Chromium/Scripts/main.lua.
To uninstall, remove the mod. Your settings were never saved, so the next launch is exactly as before.
Made by
Reagent Launcher. Chromium also ships with Reagent Launcher, where it's an Off/On switch in the
Performance section.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
