SoransBetterLethalVRM

v1.4.0·Updated 2026-07-13

Fork of OomJan's BetterLethalVRM. Fixes the rejoin-during-loading crash and leave/rejoin invisibility, adds a VRM vertical-offset hotkey, and lets Masked Enemies mimic a player's VRM.

Soran's Better Lethal VRM

A fork of BetterLethalVRM by OomJan, which is itself based on LethalVRM by Ooseykins. This fork keeps all the original functionality and only adds bug fixes.

What's different from upstream BetterLethalVRM

  • Fixes the rejoin-during-loading crash. In the original mod, if any player crashed and rejoined while the host was loading a new moon, every other client would see the rejoiner's VRM duplicate over and over in T-pose, and RAM would climb until the game crashed. This fork tracks in-flight VRM loads, aborts stale ones if the player is replaced or disconnected mid-load, and destroys the freshly-loaded VRM if anything goes wrong before the bone bind completes.
  • Fixes orphan T-pose VRMs. Originally, when a VRM's source bones were destroyed (e.g., on dead body cleanup), the VRM was removed from the mod's tracking dictionaries but the GameObject itself was leaked into the scene as a frozen T-pose. This fork properly destroys the GameObject in those code paths.
  • Adds a VRM vertical offset hotkey. Some VRM models, after the mod's automatic feet-to-hips scaling, end up with their feet floating slightly above the floor or sinking through it. This fork adds a configurable hotkey (default PageUp to raise, PageDown to lower) that nudges your VRM up or down in real time at 0.2 m/s. The value is auto-saved to a.offset sidecar file next to your.vrm (e.g. VRMs/76561197974711290.offset) when you release the key, so the model lands at the correct height on every subsequent session. Per-VRM, so different models can have different offsets. See Vertical offset below for details.
  • Bumped UnityEngine.Modules NuGet from 2022.3.9 to 2022.3.62 to match current LethalCompany.GameLibs.Steam requirements (build-system change only — no runtime impact).

If you don't run into the rejoin crash and don't need the vertical-offset adjustment, this fork is functionally identical to the upstream mod. Use whichever you prefer.

Vertical offset

When the mod loads a VRM it scales the model so its head matches the Lethal Company player's head height. For most models the feet then land on the floor correctly, but for some — especially short or quadruped/digitigrade rigs — the feet end up above or below the floor surface. This fork adds an additive vertical offset applied per-frame in world up:

  • Default keybinds: PageUp raises the model, PageDown lowers it. Hold either and the model moves smoothly at 0.2 m/s.
  • Where the value lives: when you release the key, the current offset (in meters) is saved to VRMs.offset as a plain text number. For example, if your VRM is VRMs/76561197974711290.vrm, the offset file is VRMs/76561197974711290.offset. You can also edit this file by hand with any text editor if you'd rather just type the value.
  • Per-VRM, not global: each VRM file gets its own offset, so a tall avatar with feet-above-floor and a short avatar with feet-below-floor can each have their own correction.
  • Per-client: because each client has its own VRMs/ folder, every player adjusts the models on their own machine independently. If you find the right offset for your own model, share that number with your friends so they can put it in their own.offset file too. Otherwise their copy of your avatar might still float / sink.

The keybinds, adjustment speed, and modifiers can be customized in BepInEx/config/SoranJackal.BetterLethalVRM.cfg (file is created on first launch) under the [VRM Offset] section:

[VRM Offset]

RaiseKey = PageUp

LowerKey = PageDown

AdjustSpeed = 0.2

BepInEx's KeyboardShortcut format supports modifier combinations (e.g. Ctrl + PageUp) — see the comments in the generated config file.

Bundled libraries

This package ships 13.dll files alongside the plugin. None of them are other mods being re-bundled — they are the UniVRM library set (MIT-licensed, maintained by the VRM Consortium / pixiv), which BetterLethalVRM depends on to load.vrm files at runtime. The upstream OomJan-BetterLethalVRM ships the exac

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
