LethalMario64

v0.6.2·Updated 2026-10-11

A Mario suit that turns you into the real SM64 Mario (physics, moves, voice, 3rd-person camera) via libsm64. Needs YOUR OWN SM64 US ROM.

About this mod Author’s original text

LethalMario64

Adds a Mario 64 suit to the suit rack. Put it on and you are Mario from Super Mario 64:

the actual SM64 movement code (triple jumps, long jumps, backflips, wall kicks, dives,

ground pounds), his model, animations and voice, with an SM64-style third-person camera.

Switch back to any other suit and you're a normal first-person employee again.

Powered by libsm64, which runs the decompiled SM64 code

and loads Mario's textures, animations and sounds from your own ROM at runtime.

No Nintendo ROM data is included in this package.

You need your own ROM

A Super Mario 64 US ROM (sha1 9bef1128717f958171a4afac3ed78ee2bb4e86ce), as.z64,.n64 or.v64.

Any filename works — the mod recognizes it by its fingerprint. Put it in either:

  • your profile's BepInEx/config folder (mod manager → Settings → Browse profile folder), or
  • anywhere you like, and set RomPath in BepInEx/config/lethalmario64.cfg to the file or its folder.

If you've played sm64coopdx / sm64ex-coop, it's found automatically in %APPDATA%.

Without a ROM the mod still works for you as a viewer: you see Mario players in a

red-and-blue fallback suit and can't become Mario yourself. Everyone in the lobby needs the mod

installed (suit lists must match, like any suit mod).

Controls

| SM64 | Keyboard / mouse | Controller |

|---|---|---|

| Stick | WASD | Left stick |

| A (jump) | Space | Jump button |

| B (punch / kick / dive) | Left click with empty hands, or F | Use-item button with empty hands |

| Z (crouch / ground pound / long jump) | Ctrl (Crouch) | Crouch button |

| Camera | Mouse | Right stick |

| C-Up: first-person look (Mario stands still, mouse looks around) | ↑ or V | |

| C-Down: cycle camera distance (close / normal / far) | ↓ | |

| C-Left / C-Right: swing camera 45° | ← / → | |

| Next / previous skin | K / J | |

| Unstuck (rebuild collision, back onto solid ground) | U | |

Everything else (E to interact, Q to drop, scroll, scanning, terminal, ladders) works as usual.

Punches, kicks, dives, ground pounds and stomps damage enemies. SM64 fall damage

(power-meter wedges) turns into Lethal Company damage.

Skins

Press K / J to cycle skins; everyone in the lobby sees your skin (it's synced, no files needed

on their side). Built in: Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, SMG4, Naked Mario, Fire Mario, Metal Mario,

Gold Mario, Wing Mario, Vanish Mario, Shadow Mario.

  • Luigi, Wario and Waluigi use sm64coopdx's official palette colors.
  • Metal Mario and Gold Mario use SM64's real metal-cap look (the ROM's metal texture,

environment-mapped) and its metal footstep / jump / landing sounds.

  • Wing Mario wears SM64's wing cap and can fly like in SM64 (triple jump to take off,

hold jump to glide). Set WingMarioCanFly = false to keep the wings as a look only.

  • Vanish Mario has the vanish cap's shimmering see-through stipple (purely visual).
  • Naked Mario has no cap.

You can add your own skins: drop sm64coopdx palette.ini files into

BepInEx/config/LethalMario64Skins. (The vanilla model shares one color for shirt and cap.)

Optional extra lines: GLYPH = 76 (letter on the cap, character code), NOCAP = 1,

WINGCAP = 1, VANISH = 1, METAL = 1 (+ METAL_R/G/B tint).

Water and lava

Lethal Company water makes Mario swim like in SM64 (the game's own drowning still applies).

Lava volumes on modded moons are burning floors: Mario does the SM64 lava bounce and takes damage.

Config (BepInEx/config/lethalmario64.cfg)

SuitName, RomPath, MarioScale, Volume, FallDamagePerWedge, MarioCanHurtPlayers,

camera Distance / Height / AutoFollow / ArrowKeysAreCButtons / FirstPersonKey, controls BKey / LeftClickIsB / UnstuckKey, skins Skin / NextSkinKey / PrevSkinKey / WingMarioCanFly.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
