Discord-style walkie-talkies with a voice activity HUD
About this mod Author’s original text
BetterVC
Walkie-talkies that work like Discord voice chat. Switch a walkie on and you can talk to, and hear, everyone else who has one on, with no
button to hold. A small list on screen shows who is talking and how you hear them.
Every player in the lobby should install this mod. The walkie state is shared between players, and someone without the mod
will not announce when they are transmitting, so they would sound wrong to everyone else. It is not tested with a mixed lobby.
Features
- Always-on walkies: transmit automatically if you have a powered on walkie in inventory.
- Natural distance blend: smooth transition from in-person to walkie talkie audio.
- Voice activity list: see the names of the player talking, like a Discord overlay voice chat.
- Centered radio: remove the annoying constant right-ear walkie audio by centralizing the radio pan.
Known issues
- With IdleChatterVolume above 0, several powered-on walkies close together stack their chatter into a noisy pile. A limit is planned.
- Untested with other walkie and voice mods.
AI Content
Although I came up with the idea and project roadmap, a good majority of this mod's implementation is developed with AI tools with efforts for code hygiene. Do not install this mod if using AI-assisted content is not for you.

Turn on Debug / DebugLogging, reproduce the problem, and attach BepInEx/LogOutput.log from the affected players. Dm on Discord @ bannbaoo
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
