Your sleep is no longer safe
Nightmares Will Follow
🌙 **Nightmare Follow** completely improves the sleep system of "The Outer Worlds: Redemption 2" and introduces **Dynamic Nightmare Mechanism**, making every night a gamble. Inspired by the Nightmare debuff from **KCD1**, this isn't just a return - it's a complete reimagining, built from the ground up with deeper mechanics, immersive conditions, and escalating consequences.
**Your night is no longer safe. **

🎭 Nightmare triggers
Various factors affect whether you experience nightmares while sleeping - from where you rest, to the items you carry, to your level of filth, damage, or guilt.
🛏️ **Bed Quality**:
- Sleeping in a noble bed or hotel reduces the risk of nightmares
- Haystacks, dirty straw or dilapidated shelters can make your sleep vulnerable to darkness
❤️ **Player Health**:
- Falling asleep with high health (above 80%) can reduce the chance of nightmares
- Injured or dying? Get ready for disturbing dreams
🔮 **Sleep related items**:
- Certain items provide subtle protection
- Carrying it in the inventory can slightly reduce the probability of nightmares
- These bonuses stack moderately - not enough to be safe, but enough to make a difference
🌧️ **Rain Exposure**:
- Nightmares are more likely to occur when sleeping outdoors when it rains - now with lasting effects
- If there is no shelter, even light rain may trigger the **wet debuff**, reducing stamina and stealth
- Stronger storms bring harsher punishments
💩 **Dirtyness**:
- You are more likely to dream about darkness if you are covered in dirt, blood or sweat
- Keep it clean for a peaceful rest
⚖️ **Indulgence (sin)**:
- Your sins don’t sleep – they accumulate
- Enough indulgent debt and sinful sleep hours and you may start suffering from **Guilty Nightmares**
⏰ **Sleep Duration Tracking**:
- Short naps (less than 2 hours) will not trigger nightmares - but still count towards guilt accumulation
- Don't think you can get away with being a lazy farmer. Your conscience remembers every hour

🌟 Quality sleep reward
😴 **Good night sleep buff**:
- If you sleep 7 hours or more, indoors or in a dry environment, and avoid nightmares - you may wake up feeling **really refreshed**
- This provides powerful buffs: improved stamina regeneration, charisma and vitality
- But the night must be calm. One nightmare or one drop of rain and the opportunity is lost
---
⚡ Nightmare Consequences
⚡ **Nightmare sleep now drains your energy**: Waking up from nightmares now **decreases your energy (exhaustion)** - a state that determines how alert you feel.
- **Severe Nightmare** consumes more energy
- **Longer Sleep** slightly reduces penalties and gives your body a chance to recover
- Just like in real life, aim for more than six hours of sleep
---
🌈 Nightmare Type
There are currently three different **nightmare types**, each with three **severity levels** - mild, moderate and severe. This means there are a total of nine possible **Nightmare debuff**, each with a unique name, effect, and description.
- **Default Nightmare** reflects general unease or stress
- **Storm Nightmares** are related to weather and primal fears
- **Guilty Nightmares** are triggered by the crimes you commit - tracked by your indulgences and guilty sleep hours

🎮 Compatibility
Skills like **Next to Godliness**, **Nightcap**, **Body Heat** and **Wanderer** should be compatible with this mod as they are recognized in the displayed bed quality and faster energy regeneration.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
