📦 Storage box extension
A clean quality of life mod designed for Human Host. You can expand the original 5×6=30 storage boxes to 12×200=2400 configurable slots per box, supporting vertical scroll bars + full mouse wheel.
✨ Features
Larger boxes - default 10 × 10 = 100 slots (original 30). Each box is independent.
Only affects player-placed containers - world loot boxes and body bags remain vanilla
Scrollbars automatically hide when not needed, mouse wheel works on item icons
Automatic sorting/automatic storage/drag/split/stack operations all work on the expanded grid.
Archive security - uses the game's own archive format, no custom data layer
No file replacement, no DLL patching - Harmony prefix/suffix + reflection only
⚙️ Configurable - edit BepInEx\config\humanhost.storagebox.expand.cfg: columns (default 10 columns, range 5–12 - up to 12 columns to prevent overlap with backpack interface)
Number of lines (default 10 lines, range 6–200)
Visible lines (default 8 lines, range 6–10 – up to 10 lines to prevent screen overflow)
Scroll bar width (default 16, range 8–40), scroll sensitivity (default 30, range 5–100)
Tip: Maximum 2400 slots per box (12×200). Normal usage is 100–500. The first opening of a box with thousands of cells may freeze for ~1 second, but Unity will generate all cells - subsequent openings are almost instantaneous.
📦 Installation
Requires BepInEx 5 (mono x64). The workshop only ships StorageBoxExpand.dll.
Step 1 — Install BepInEx 5
Download BepInEx_win_x64_5.4.23.2.zip from
Unzip Human Host.exe into your Human Host installation folder (next to)
).You should look at winhttp.dll, doorstop_config.ini, and a BepInEx
folder
Start the game once and then exit - this will generate BepInEx\plugins\,BepInEx\config\,BepInEx LogOutput.log
Step 2 — Enable HideManagerGameObject (required)
⚠️ Without this step, the mod loads but does nothing.
Open the door BepInEx\config\BepInEx.cfg
Change HideManagerGameObject = false
to HideManagerGameObject = true
Step 3 — Install StorageBoxExpand.dll

Received StorageBoxExpand.dll
Enter the human host\BepInEx\plugins\
Start the game and open a placed storage box, F
⚠️ Crucial – Read before uninstalling or downsizing
Unlike some inventory mods, if you shrink the grid below the occupied slot index, the storage chest's data is permanently lost. When opening the box, the game removes any slot data outside of the current grid size. 🚨 If you:
When an item occupies more than 30 slots of the original version, uninstall the module
Reduce column × row below item slot index
Open a previously expanded box after switching to a smaller configuration
✅ Safe operation:
Before uninstalling or shrinking: clear all expanded boxes back to the first 30 slots, save and exit
It is always safe to add columns or rows
When in doubt, back up the archive folder before changing the configuration
🗑️ Uninstall
Empty each extension's box first (see warning above - not optional)
Save and exit
Unsubscribe + Delete Human Host\BepInEx\Plugins\StorageBoxExpand.dll
🔧 Troubleshooting
The box still has 30 cells / no scroll bars: Checked BepInEx LogOutput.log
Stands for "Loaded, target... slot machine". Confirm HideManagerGameObject = true
In BepInEx.cfg. window off-screen/overlapping backpack: reduce the number of columns (up to 12 columns) or the number of visible rows (up to 10 rows). Mouse wheel won't scroll: Increase scrolling sensitivity in configuration. Item disappears after shrinking: Reinstall to previously larger column × row - If the box has been opened after shrinking, the item disappears.
💾 Compatibility
Tested on Human Host Early Access (Steam, May 2026), BepInEx 5.4.23.2 LTS Mono x64. Compatible with Backpack Expand, Admin Panel and most BepInEx plugins. Single-player mode only - the game itself doesn't support multiplayer yet.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
