About this mod Author’s original text

Wild Events

Random wildlife and combat events for How to Fish.

Wild Events adds recurring random encounters while you explore the islands. Events happen around the player and are designed as short, chaotic interruptions to normal gameplay.

Events

Seahorse Stampede

A group of Seahorses suddenly appears around the player.

Catch or kill them before they escape back into the water.

Default amount: 10–20 Seahorses

Piranha Rain

A large group of normal Piranhas rains down around the player.

When no real boss is active, the event uses the native Boss UI as a progress bar and plays native boss-style music.

The event ends when all tracked Piranhas have died or disappeared.

Default settings:

  • 25–40 Piranhas
  • Spawn height: approximately 15.78 m
  • Boss UI: enabled
  • Boss music: enabled

Urchin Invasion

A large group of Sea Urchins appears around the player.

Clear them all to finish the event.

When no real boss is active, this event also uses the native Boss UI and boss-style music.

Default settings:

  • 18–25 Sea Urchins
  • Boss UI: enabled
  • Boss music: enabled

Event timing

By default, Wild Events schedules a random event every 2–4 minutes:

  • Minimum: 120 seconds
  • Maximum: 240 seconds

Only one Wild Event can run at a time.

Spawn behaviour

Event creatures spawn close to the player instead of across the whole island.

Approximate spawn ranges:

  • Seahorse Stampede: 5–14 m
  • Piranha Rain: up to about 9 m horizontally
  • Urchin Invasion: 6–16 m

This helps keep events visible and reduces creatures spawning too far away and dying before the player can react.

Boss-style events

Piranha Rain and Urchin Invasion are presented as temporary boss-style encounters.

Wild Events:

  • Uses the native How to Fish Boss UI.
  • Shows event progress based on how many creatures remain.
  • Plays native boss-style music.
  • Stops the event music when the event finishes.
  • Does not register event creatures as the game's real global boss.
  • Avoids taking over the Boss UI when a real boss is active.

Configuration

Configuration file:

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
