Developer library for adding timed status icons that match How to Fish's native vitals UI.

About this mod Author’s original text

Native Status UI

Native Status UI is a small developer library for adding timed status indicators that match How to Fish's native fire and poison interface.

It handles native UI cloning, compact active-icon positioning, animated materials, texture clamping, color tinting, duration fill, and cleanup. It does not create gameplay effects or synchronize status activation over the network.

For mod developers

Register a white-alpha PNG mask once, then activate it on the local client:

using NativeStatusUI;

using UnityEngine;

NativeStatus.Register("YourTeam.YourMod.Luck", pngBytes, new Color(0.35f, 0.9f, 0.4f));

NativeStatus.Activate("YourTeam.YourMod.Luck", 60f);

Identifiers must be unique across installed mods. PNG masks should be square, centered, padded, white on transparency, and designed to remain readable under the native animated material. Only active custom indicators occupy HUD slots, so multiple registered effects do not leave gaps when hidden.

Installation

Install Mod Manager, or copy ArceDev.NativeStatusUI.dll into BepInEx/plugins/ for a manual BepInEx installation.

Requirements

  • How to Fish
  • BepInExPack 5.4.2305

Multiplayer

Native Status UI is client-side presentation only. A dependent mod decides how effects are created and synchronized. Every player who wants to see a dependent mod's custom indicators must install this library and that mod.

Roadmap

  • Permanent indicators without a duration fill.
  • Stack or charge counters on an indicator.
  • Per-indicator animation and material controls.
  • Optional diagnostics for invalid masks, duplicate identifiers, and early activation.

AI Disclosure

This mod was developed with assistance from generative AI for programming, documentation, and promotional artwork. The author reviewed, tested, and approved the final implementation and assets.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
