About this mod Author’s original text
Boss HP Text
The boss health bar is a normalised fill — it shows you a proportion, never a number.
This puts the numbers back: current/total, centred in the bar, in the game's own font.
The text sits underneath the bar's shake-and-spring animation, so the numbers jolt with
every hit exactly like the bar does.
Multiplayer
Client-side only. Nothing is sent, nothing is patched on the server, and players without
the mod are unaffected — so it works in any lobby, hosted or joined.
One thing the numbers make visible: boss HP scales with lobby size. A boss with 562 HP
solo has 1405 in a four-player game.
Configuration
Generated at BepInEx/config/alexandre.howtofish.bosshptext.cfg on first run, and
editable in-game through the config editor of any mod manager.
| Key | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | true | Show the numbers at all |
| Format | {0}/{1} | {0} is current HP, {1} is maximum |
| FontSize | 0 | Points; 0 copies the boss name label's size |
| TextColor | #FFFFFF | Hex colour of the numbers |
| OutlineWidth | 0.2 | 0–1; the bar changes colour by boss type, so some outline keeps the text readable on both |
| OutlineColor | #000000 | Hex colour of the outline |
A malformed Format string falls back to cur/max rather than blanking the label.
Manual installation
Mod managers handle this for you. By hand: install
BepInExPack, then drop
HowToFish.BossHpText.dll into BepInEx/plugins.
Note that Steam's install directory contains a second How to Fish folder — the game
lives at steamapps/common/How to Fish/How to Fish.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
