Ultra Fog - Better and more immersive fog

**Note:** Screenshots cannot truly show the effect, please go to the video page to see the actual effect!

There are several issues with the fog in the original game:

  • **Everywhere**: It's as dense even inside buildings as it is outside.
  • **Persistent**: It’s rare to see truly clear weather.
  • **Poor sense of distance**: The fog is only generated 50 meters in front of the character and will disappear when approaching.
  • **Character Disengagement**: This makes the character feel very separate from the scene (because the character contrast is much higher than the scene).

**Ultra Fog** All fog in the game has been remastered to fix these issues and drastically improve immersion! ✨

🎯 Major improvements

  • **Enhanced Surround Sense**: Bring the fog around the character, making you feel like you are truly "in" the scene.
  • **Distinct Features**: Each mist is more unique and has its own feeling.
  • **Dynamic Interaction**: Some fog now interacts with wind.
  • **Light and Shadow Effects**: Fog now interacts with light sources, including night lights, the sun and the moon.
  • **Physical Simulation**: Simulate realistic fog effects through albedo and internal scattering.
  • **Default Optimization**: Change the default weather to "sunny" with occasional drifting mist.
**NOTE 1:** You will usually see "less" fog in the game, but don't worry, when you see fog you'll feel its presence immediately! 😉
**NOTE 2:** This mod does not change small areas of surface fog (such as the hills above Hogsmeade Pond). I haven't found these resources yet, so they still disappear when you get close.

🌫️ New mist type

  • **Clear** – Really clear weather.
  • **Foggy** – It’s really thick fog now, like pea soup, and the night atmosphere is super strong.
  • **Misty** – Feels like a light, moist mist surrounding you.
  • **Sanctuary** – Windy fog with light ground fog.
  • **Rainy** – Not all rainy days will occur, but some will now be accompanied by a layer of mist.
  • **Light Fog** – A realistic light fog that interacts with light sources.
  • **Default** – (This is the main fog type) Sunny with a light breeze and passing light fog.

📥 How to install

  • **Copy file**: Copy the `.pak` file to the `Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods` folder (you will need to create this folder if you don’t have any mods yet), or use the mod manager.
  • **OPTIONAL CONFIGURATION**: Add the following lines to the `%LocalAppData%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini` file for best results:

```ini
[SystemSettings]
r.VolumetricFog.HistoryWeight=0.87
r.VolumetricFog.DepthDistributionScale=24.0
r.VolumetricFog.HistoryMissSupersampleCount=16
r.VolumetricFog.wVolumetricGridSizeX=128
r.VolumetricFog.wVolumetricGridSizeY=80
r.VolumetricFog.wVolumetricGridSizeZ=192
```

**Tip:** To get the full effects of Ultra Fog, it is recommended to install the Ultra Plus mod (**not required**).

⚠️ Known issues

The Hogwarts and Hogsmeade maps will be covered in fog. I'm not sure what's causing this and am looking for a solution. You can still click on the map as usual, it's just a little annoying.

💬 Please provide feedback

I've done a lot of testing, but this is a very difficult mod to test because there are so many different fog variations throughout the game.

If you notice anything weird or have suggestions for improvements, please provide feedback in the post! 😊

---

🗑️ How to uninstall

  • Delete the relevant `.pak` files.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
