🧙♂️ Module introduction
Have you gotten used to the combat system of "Hogwarts Legacy" and feel that defeating enemies has become too easy? When you add potions, deadly plants, and equipment bonuses, you become too powerful compared to your enemies. There are already some mods on the market that attempt to solve this problem by making enemies more aggressive or increasing their health. This module adopts a simpler method: **just improve the level of all NPCs**. (In fact, Hogwarts Legacy’s SQL database itself has mechanisms for this functionality built into it!)
In this module, I provide an average of 5 levels** improvement for NPCs, but the specific value may fluctuate between **2 and 7 levels**. Note that the game itself has bumped up some of its deadlier enemies by 2 or 3 levels, so you may occasionally run into an enemy that's up to 10 levels higher than you. This is still doable given your various strengths. But if they have a few friends who are also a few levels above you... well, you might be in for a decent fight! 😉
However, it should be emphasized that this mod will only increase the level of NPCs by 5 levels from the level that the game originally planned to give them. How the game decides what levels to assign is a mystery, and it's not entirely based on player level (although that's certainly a factor). Therefore, you won't always face enemies that are 2-7 levels higher than you, and many times their level difference will be smaller. But at least, they will be 5 levels higher than the enemies you originally faced!

📦 Installation Guide
- **AUTO INSTALL**: Click the "Vortex" or "Mod Manager Download" button and the mod should install automatically.
- **Manual Installation**: If the Vortex installation fails, please manually download the ZIP file, extract the PAK file from it, and place it in the following directory:
`Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\`
If the `~mods` directory does not exist, create it manually.
---
🗑️ Uninstall method
- **Install via Vortex**: Click the "Remove" button for that mod in Vortex...but then **make sure to check** the folder `Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\` to make sure there is no folder named something like "XXX-TougherEnemies5_v?_?_?" (where XXX is a three-letter prefix, depending on how many mods you have installed). If such a folder exists, delete it. Vortex is supposed to remove it, but sometimes it misses it. If the folder still exists, the mod is actually still installed.
- **Manual installation**: Just delete the `TougherEnemies5.pak` file directly from the `Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\` folder.

⚠️ Compatibility and conflicts
This mod modifies and replaces the game's `PhoenixShipData.sqlite` SQL database file.
If you have other mods installed that also modify the game's SQL data (such as my Less Spiders mod), please use the Mod Merge Tool and follow the instructions there to:
- Merge changes intelligently.
- Install the final generated merged PAK file.
**Tip**: If you want to know what specific changes my mod made to the SQL database, just load my mod into the mod merge tool and you'll be able to see a detailed list of modifications. 🔍
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
