Tougher Enemies (by 12-17 levels)
✨ Introduction
Once you get used to Hogwarts Legacy's combat system, defeating enemies can become a bit too easy. If you add in potions, deadly plants, and gear bonuses... you become quite powerful compared to your enemies. There are several mods on the market that try to solve this problem by making enemies more aggressive or giving them more health. This mod takes a simpler approach: **Just give all NPCs a level increase**. (Hogwarts Legacy even has a mechanism for this built into its SQL database.)
In this mod, I raised the NPC level by an average of **15**, but the specific value may fluctuate between **12 and **17**. You also need to be aware that the game itself has bumped up some of its deadlier enemies by 2 or 3 levels, so you may occasionally run into enemies that are **up to 20 levels** higher than you. This is still doable given your strengths, but if they have a few friends (who are also fifteen levels above you)... well... then you might be in for a real challenge! 😉
However, I need to emphasize that this mod will only increase the level of NPCs by 15 levels from the level the game originally planned to give them. How the game decides what levels to assign is unknown. It's not just based on the player's level (although that's certainly a factor), so you won't always be facing enemies that are 12-17 levels above you. Many times, their level difference will be less than this value. But at least, they will be 15 levels higher than the enemies you originally faced!

📥 Installation method
- **AUTO INSTALL**: This mod should be installed automatically via the "Vortex" or "Mod Manager Download" button.
- **MANUAL INSTALL**: If Vortex installation fails, please manually download the ZIP file, extract the PAK file from it, and place it in the following directory:
`Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\`
- If the `~mods` directory does not exist, create it.
---
🗑️ How to uninstall
- **Install via Vortex**: Click the "Remove" button for the mod in Vortex...but then you'll also need to check the folder `Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\` to make sure there's no folder like "XXX-TougherEnemies15_v?_?_?" (where XXX is a three-letter prefix, depending on how many mods you have installed). If such a folder exists, delete it. Vortex is supposed to remove it, but sometimes it misses it. If the folder still exists, the mod is still installed.
- **Manual Installation**: Delete the `TougherEnemies15.pak` file directly from the `Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\` folder.

⚠️ Compatibility and conflicts
This mod modifies and replaces the game's `PhoenixShipData.sqlite` SQL database file.
If you have other mods that modify the game's SQL data (such as my Fewer Spiders mod), please use the Mod Merger program and follow the instructions therein to: a) intelligently merge the changes; b) install the resulting merged PAK file.
By the way, if you want to know what changes my mod made to the SQL database, just load my mod into Mod Merger and you'll see the list. 😊
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
