Remove speed limits in areas such as inside buildings, and adjust character speed for slower, more controlled movement. Under development.

Movement Mod

✨ Module function

The removal of regional speed limits in the game (such as inside buildings) and the overall adjustment of character movement speeds are designed to provide a slower, more controlled movement experience, giving players greater control over their characters.

🚧 Current status

This mod is still **under development**! The current approach is relatively straightforward and may not be optimal, so you may encounter unexpected situations or errors. Please be aware and report issues so they can be fixed. At the same time, players using controllers may need to adjust the curve settings, and feedback is welcome!

📦 Installation and use

  • **Prerequisites**: Blueprint Apparate Modloader needs to be installed.
  • **Installation steps**:
  • Unzip the downloaded 7z file.
  • Copy the three module files (pak, ucas, utoc) to the `~mods` folder in your game installation directory:

`[Path-To-Steam]\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods`

  • **Activate the module**:
  • Run the game and load the save file.
  • Press the **F8** key to open the Apparate window.
  • Type **MovementMod** and press enter.
  • MovementMod should appear in the list. **This only needs to be done once**.
  • **Uninstall**: Just delete those three mod files from the above `~mods` folder.

⚠️ Known issues and instructions

  • **Slowing down near doors**: The character will still slow down near doors. This is related to the streaming loading of game resources. There is currently no solution.
  • **Sprint through door bug**: There is a bug in the original version of the game. When you use "hold sprint" and try to sprint through the door, you may be accelerated abnormally. Solution: Press and release the Shift key to reset the speed. It is recommended to report this issue through the official bug tracker to prompt developers to fix it.
  • **Quest Script Limitation**: In certain scripted quest sequences that require following an NPC, the speed limit is still in effect.

💡 Design Concept

**Why should the character be slowed down? **

Because base movement speed needs to be coordinated with gameplay. In a game that requires the player to observe the environment, discover objects, and interact, running (or a quick jog that's close to running) shouldn't be the default speed. You think running can save time, but in fact you may miss a lot of content and need to turn back, wasting more time.

The fact that the game's developers had to introduce speed-limited zones proves in itself that their original choice of base speed was problematic - jogging fast in a small room can make for a really ridiculous experience.

Every mechanic in a game should have a purpose, because games are made up of rules. Without rules, there is no game. For example:

  • In the Dark Souls series, sprinting consumes stamina for a purpose - if you suddenly rush into a pile of enemies, you may not be able to fight.
  • In Red Dead Redemption 2, the longer pickup animations are purposeful - while you focus on picking up loot, you ignore your surroundings and make yourself a target.

Ignoring these simple design rules is a common problem in many games today. This mod aims to explore a more reasonable movement rhythm to improve the overall game immersion and controllability of "Hogwarts Legacy".

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
