beast encounter
✨ This mod makes magical beasts no longer just hide in the den, they will appear all over the world, making your adventure full of more surprises!
---
🦄 Core functions
Allow beasts to spawn in natural environments outside of their dens. At the same time, **Hypogriff** and **Phoenix** are allowed to have a very low probability of appearing before their respective missions are unlocked.
Where the beasts appear depends on the **biome** you are in.
---
🗺️ Guide to where beasts spawn
The following is the spawning of various beasts in different areas:
- **Puffy Rong** - Found **rarely** in dense forest areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Phoenix** - **Extremely rare** in mountainous areas.
- **Horpodon** - **Extremely rare** in mountain and highland areas.
- **Ball Escaper** - **rare** in sparse forest and grassland areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Evil Bird** - **rare** in dense forest and black forest areas. May move in **groups**.
- **Unicorn** - **very rare** in the Black Forest region.
- **Hippogriff** - **very rare** in highland, coastal and grassland areas. May move in **groups**.
- **Thestrals** - **rare** in wetland areas.
- **Giant Purple Toad** - Found **rarely** in wetlands and coastal areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Catonizi** - Found **rarely** in grasslands and sparse forest areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Evil Spirit** - Found **rarely** in forest areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Moon-Crazy Beast** - **Rarely** found in dense forests and dark forest areas. **Groups** activities.
- **Sniff** - **Rarely** seen in coastal grassland areas, **Rarely** found near towns.
**Note**: These beasts spawned in the wild are not as durable as those found in dens. If you move too far away, they will disappear, but the disappearance range is large enough that it usually won't affect your observation.

⚙️ Installation instructions
- **Module Merge**: If you have installed other modules that modify the `PhoenixShipData.sqlite` file, you need to use the **Hogwarts Legacy Module Merger Tool** to merge them.
- **File Location**: The merged file (**`zMergedMods_P.pak`**) or a separate **`z_BeastEncounters_P.pak`** file must be placed in the following folder:
`HogwartsLegacy/Phoenix/Content/Paks/~mods`
🎮 Mid-game merge guide
- **It is possible** to merge this mod mid-game, but it is **strongly recommended** to back up your saves and existing `zMergedMods_P.pak` files.
- **Merge order** is crucial:
- If there are already merged files, the order should be:
`zMergedMods_P.pak`
`z_BeastEncounters_P.pak`
- If there are no merged files, make sure:
`...other mods...`
`Any mod that modifies beasts`
`z_BeastEncounters_P.pak`
`...other mods...`
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE
Using the **Hogwarts Legacy Mod Merger Tool** you can easily check if a mod needs to be merged (it will tell you if it does), and the right side will show you what data has been modified.
**For mid-game merges**, new values (mainly from this mod) should usually be placed at the bottom of the list as new entries.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
