BetterTextChat
Multiple lines, movable cursor, scrollable history, typing indicators, and more
About this mod Author’s original text
Composition and Sending
- If you reach the 50 character limit for a chat message, it wraps onto the next line instead of cutting you off.
- You can also manually insert a line break with Shift-Enter.
- You can move the cursor with Home, End, and the Left and Right arrow keys.
- You can use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy and paste.
- The special characters `, and =` are now allowed.
- Beware: Things can get weird if you use rich text tags, especially across multiple lines. You have been warned.
- You can use F1-F4 to choose the target of your message.
- The target player's name is displayed at the beginning of the message, like [Bot]Bishop, Lets not do that again.
- Compatible with LobbyExpansion, using F5-F8.
History
- While the chat is open, you can use the mouse wheel to scroll up and down through the chat history.
- Chat history persists across multiple expeditions and even multiple lobbies.
Typing Indicators
- When another BetterTextChat user is typing, a message like [PlayerName is typing...] is displayed.
- Likewise, other BetterTextChat users see the same message when you are typing.
- Can be disabled in BepInEx/config/BetterTextChat.cfg.
Message Timestamps
- Displays the time each message was received.
- This feature is currently disabled by default, but can be enabled in BepInEx/config/BetterTextChat.cfg.
Miscellaneous
- Fixes several vanilla bugs related to voice chat push-to-talk sound effects and multiple simultaneous speakers.
- Fixes font size of messages from players with long names.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
