The 1918/1928 Browning Automatic Rifle was a cutting-edge development in machine gun technology and was considered a very advanced and futuristic design for its time. The detachable magazine and the ability to be carried by just one man, without any mounting or support, make this weapon stand out among all other light machine guns. Basically it was one of the first machine guns that a soldier could carry, fire and reload, making the BAR and those who used it unmatched in firepower until other similar weapons were developed.
The BAR vaguely resembles a modern assault rifle due to its detachable box magazine and pistol grip (1928 model only), while the STG44 next to it is partially responsible for the inspiration and development of the modern assault rifle as we know it today.
