Too many chests and storage rooms to search through?
Storage Filter adds unified search and locator tools to chests, storage rooms, and conveyor storage.
Features
- Shared search: one query is reused across all supported storage windows.
- Pinyin search: full pinyin, initials, and spaced pinyin are supported. For example, a Chinese item named "火" can be matched with huoyan, hy, or huo yan.
- Dim or highlight: dim non-matching slots, or highlight matching slots with a subtle gold border.
- R = find storage: locate containers holding the hovered item, recipe result, or current search target.
- U = find crafting station: locate stations that know the recipe. Alchemy, distillation, and sermon-style recipe families use the game's corresponding craft element type.
- Task-style magnifier: matching buildings are highlighted and marked with a vanilla-style magnifying-glass bubble. Off-screen targets pin to the screen edge with a direction pointer.
- Cross-area guidance: R/U searches every currently loaded area. When the target is elsewhere, guidance first points to the connecting door or cellar entrance and refreshes after crossing.
- Non-destructive: scanning happens only when R or U is pressed. The mod does not move items, craft automatically, or write save data.
- No idle cost: the plugin no longer scans the loaded assemblies every frame to detect Storage Console, so it stays cheap even when Storage Console is not installed.
Key behavior
- R priority: hovered item > current recipe window > global search text.
- U priority: current recipe window > hovered item > global search text.
- While the search box is focused, R and U are treated as normal text input.
- The locator does not run while build or deconstruct mode is active.
- Highlights and markers last 6 seconds by default. At most the nearest 64 targets get markers; every matching building is still tinted.
- All currently loaded scenes/areas are searched; the locator never forces a new area to load.
Subscription is not auto-install
Workshop only downloads the files. The game does not automatically load Workshop DLLs. Copy the plugin once after subscribing.

Compatibility
- Standalone; it does not require or patch Shared Storage.
- When Shared Storage is installed, U naturally sees its cross-zone material pool because the locator calls the game's own crafting checks.
- With Storage Console 1.1.0+, this mod injects its search bar into the console's right-side aggregate panel. With Console 1.2.0+, the bar also exposes a two-state "Name / Quantity" sort button. It only changes display order and never modifies inventory.
- Only the consumer side performs optional integration. The mods remain independent and update separately.
Changelog
- 1.6.4: fixed a severe performance bug. Without Storage Console installed, the plugin probed for the console API on every frame, and every miss enumerated all loaded assemblies twice; the game dropped to single-digit FPS even at the main menu. The probe is now a cheap plugin-presence lookup plus a one-time type resolution.
- 1.6.2: cross-zone route markers are recalculated after the player changes area or crosses a door, so guidance continues to the next route segment or the real station instead of stopping at the old door.
- 1.6.1: when the target is in another area, the marker first points to the door or c
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
