stricter colonization
更严格的殖民化
About this mod Machine translation
This mod allows players to apply stricter rules for colonization, restrict small nations, and restrict access to the African continent. If you're confused about what the switch actually does, you can hover over the text in the mod menu to get more information.
This mod uses the Community Mod Framework.
Customizable functions
All of the following mechanics can be adjusted or toggled using the Community Mod Framework menu:
Wealth Requirement: Sets a custom tax base threshold that AI nations must reach before colonizing (default is 1,000, up from vanilla's 100). This prevents small countries from establishing impractical global colonies.
Historical Bypass: Toggles whether historical colonists (Castile, Spanish, British, British, French, Dutch, Novgorod, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese and Courland) bypass tax base restrictions entirely.
Continent Permissions: Toggle exactly which continents are allowed to colonize.
Colonial Nation Restrictions: You can completely ban colonizing nations from colonizing, restrict them to expanding only within their home region (to prevent border conflicts), and toggle whether to allow them to bypass your global wealth or continent limits.
African Colonization: African colonization was globally limited to coastal areas. You can fine-tune the exact port suitability required for African provinces, and toggle whether historical outer island chains (Azores, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, etc.) are unrestricted. (Note: AI nations with capitals in Africa will naturally colonize inland, bypassing these port restrictions. However, you can toggle specific settings to force African colonizing nations to adhere to coastal rules, or prohibit African colonizing nations from colonizing entirely.)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
