Improved cultural dynamics
Improved Culture Dynamics is a complete overhaul of cultures and their associated features in the game, and explores the interactions between these cultures and nations. This mod is intended for players who want the whole culturally relevant gameplay to be less silly or frustrating, while still being more historical and fun. The absurdity of assimilation has been reined in, while new historically appropriate tools have been introduced for players to deal with the makeup of their culture. With improved culture dynamics, culture spreads more naturally, players have more tools to choose from, the role of core areas has changed, integrating areas is less punishing, and the overall dynamics of culture growth and importance have been greatly modified. Changes have also been made to religion and tribe, with more changes planned for the future.
Function
Culture grows through contact: Culture spreads gradually between cultural borders and through arriving settlers, not everywhere at any time, regardless of the rate of assimilation based on your laws and policies, terrain, and other national and local factors.
Political relations with cultures: New cultural mainstream laws are used to characterize your primary culture's relations with the country. An empire ruled by a small Mongol elite could not assimilate anyone and instead ran the risk of being assimilated.
Integration and Core: Integration and Core have been changed. Integrated regions have the same maximum control as cores, although their monthly control gains are smaller. As a drawback, they face more separatism.
Subjects as local powers: Subjects can only be imposed upon cultures that are appropriately represented in their population. Client states are intended to embody an autonomous local government rather than an imposed bureaucracy. Being able to perform more cultures than just the main culture and link them to subject populations increases player autonomy while reducing the excess of subject-based assimilation.
More Resilient Religious Minorities: New and redesigned estate privileges make Jewish and Christian minorities in Europe and the Middle East more resilient. New events encouraged the Jewish people to migrate.
Tribe Changes: Tribe members, tribe promotions, and tribe holdings have been changed. Now they are less punitive, but more stubborn and difficult to remove.
Setting changes: Aimed to provide a more coherent and historically appropriate setting in a specific area.
More cabinet actions related to culture: improve the cultural perception of your country's culture, expel cultural minorities, send settlers of accepted cultures, adopt Ottoman and Persian sürgün policies.
Lots of other content - including a character to interact with the artist, a new map mode that shows exactly which culture a place is assimilating, content for the three religions, unique campaigns, national culture development, various small changes, and more! See the detailed list here:
A guide to dealing with culture
Cultural Mainstream Law's tooltips already cover what to expect and how it works, but check the forums for more details.
Why did you change the culture setting?
There is no perfect approach to culture, but certain cultural settings have been extensively reconstructed to take into account historical, cultural and identity factors rather than Tinto's way of sometimes simply dividing everything into modern academic vernacular groups. For example, Mosel Frankish is a very modern academic term for a related dialect. Its replacement, Rhineland dialect, is, in my opinion, a more reasonable and coherent grouping of dialects, more strongly associated with regional identity. If you have any expertise on the history of a particular people/region, I'd love to hear feedback on any cultural changes.
A version of the mod that does not include culture setting changes or new religions is planned to be released in the coming months.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
