Knight Templar Custom Character Mod

The templar enters the gungeon!

This mod adds the custom character "Knight Templar", a slow tank character that is all about defense, also wields a sword, not a gun, quite funny.

Based on the marine character, every sprite has been handcrafted by yours truly.

It could be a little strong compared to other characters, but oh well, call it lore accurate or something.

I am not very good at making sprites or mods but hey at least its free.

Character Stats and Items

Stats:

Starting Armor: 1 (Starts with 2 because of items)

Health: 4 (Higher than average)

DodgeRollSpeedMultiplier: 0.85 (Slower than average)

DodgeRollDistanceMultiplier: 0.85 (Less than average) Be careful about jumping gaps.

MovementSpeed: 6 (Slower than average)

Coolness: 3 (Knights are cool)

Any stats not shown here means it is default value like all the other characters.

Starting Items:

Blasphemy (Weapon)

Templar Helmet (Active - Grade A)

  • On activation, the character starts equiping the helmet which grants Armor at the end of the animation. (+1 normally, +2 with the "Heavy Plating" synergy).
  • Activation can be interrupted by enemy attacks but does not consume the charge, so be careful when using it as you cannot move during equip animation.
  • Can only be used while unarmored and charged.
  • Charges when the player loses health (eg: Getting hit while having armor does not count), or a room is cleared while unarmored.

Templar Armor (Passive - Grade B)

  • Immune to contact damage.
  • Grants +1 Armor upon pickup
  • Dodge roll damage multiplied by ×7.
  • Immunity to knockback, recoil, conveyor belts and some other things.

Lootable Items:

These items can be found in chests regardless of character.

Reinforced Pauldrons (Passive - Grade B)

  • 15% chance to negate an incoming hit entirely (25% if you have Armor); boosted to 20% / 30% with "Heavy Plating."
  • Plays a sound cue on a successful block, makes it easier to tell if it works.

Templar's Rosary (Passive - Grade B)

  • +1 minimum blank per floor.
  • Blanks stun enemies for 2 seconds (4 seconds with "Holy Metal").
  • +25% damage to bosses (+50% with "Holy Metal").
  • +50% damage to Jammed enemies (+100% with "Holy Metal").
  • +2 Coolness while held.
  • −2 Curse while held. (Careful to not drop this item while being too cursed, hehe)

Synergies

Currently there are only 4 synergies, I wanted to add more originally but I am a tired bastard.

Armored Advance

Templar Armor + Shield of the Maiden

  • While the shield is raised, the player can move at a reduced speed instead of being fully immobilized.
  • The shield itself and icon are changed to the templar color scheme. (You can see this in the mod showcase/trailer)

A Familiar Weapon

Templar Armor + any weapon with "bow" in its name

(Bow, Charmed Bow, Crossbow, Sticky Crossbow, Shotbow, Triple Crossbow, Crescent Crossbow, Gunbow)

  • +25% damage
  • +50% projectile speed
  • +50% max ammo
  • +25% more accuracy

Holy Metal

Templar's Rosary + Silver Bullets

  • Boosts some of the Templar's Rosary effects while active:
  • Boss damage: 25% → 50%
  • Jammed damage: 50% → 100%
  • Blank stun duration: 2s → 4s

Heavy Plating

Templar Armor + Reinforced Pauldrons

  • Additional 5% chance to negate damage (15%→20%, 25%→30%).
  • Templar Helmet grants 2 Armor instead of 1 on activation

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
