🚀 Start installation
Step 1: Install Mod Engine
Mod Engine 2 is our mod loader of choice and the only tool you really need to install mods.
- Download the latest version of ME2 and extract it to any location
- Open the folder and find the "launchmod_eldenring.bat" file
- Keep the folder open and prepare for the next step
Step 2: Use ME2 to install the DLL file
Most mods containing .dll files can be installed via ME2:
- Edit the "config_eldenring.toml" file
- Add the DLL file path in the `external_dlls` section
- Specify the DLL location using a relative path or an absolute path
**Example configuration:**
```toml
external_dlls = [
"StutterFixDLL.dll",
"C:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\ELDEN RING\\Game\\SeamlessCoop\\ersc.dll"
]
```
Step 3: Install the seamless online module
- Install Seamless Co-op into the game folder normally
- Create seamless online archives
- Get the path to the ersc.dll file and add it to the ME2 configuration
Step 4: Install non-DLL modules
For mods containing files such as Regulation.bin:
- Create a new module folder in the ME2 folder
- Move the module files to this folder
- Add module loading order in configuration file
**Example configuration:**
```toml
mods = [
{ enabled = true, name = "Sekiro", path = "sekiro" },
{ enabled = true, name = "Example", path = "example" }
]
```
Step 5: Visual Effects Module Part 1
Install the color grading and night brightness modules:
- Create the "lighting" folder
- Extract relevant module files
- Add to bottom of load order
Step 6: Visual Effects Mod Part 2
Install ReShade:
- Select DirectX 12 version
- Select Revenant Reshade preset during installation
- After entering the game, press the Home button to adjust the settings.
Step 7: Visual Effects Module Part 3 (optional)
Install Temporal Super Sampling:
- Copy the ERSS2 folder and .dll file to the game directory
- Rename .dll to .addon
- Adjust zoom and sharpen settings
Step 8: DLL module containing other files
For mods that contain both DLLs and other files:
- Create a dedicated folder
- Add to DLL list and module list at the same time
- Make sure the path is correct
Step 9: Merge Regulation.bin file
Use Smithbox to merge conflicting regulation files:
- Create a new project
- Use the Merge Params function in Param Editor
- Replace the original regulation file

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
