🚀 Software introduction

WitchyBND is the successor of **Yabber**, a completely rewritten version of FromSoftware file format unpacking and serialization tool developed by TKGP, integrating more features, better user experience and community contributions.

This is a **unpacking/repackaging/serializing** software specifically for file formats commonly used by FromSoftware's proprietary game engines, supporting the following games:

  • **Demon's Souls**
  • **Dark Souls 1-3**
  • **Bloodborne**
  • **Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice**
  • **Elden's Circle**
  • **Armored Core VI**

📋 System Requirements

The game archive needs to be unpacked using UXM Selective Unpacker before WitchyBND can process the related files.

WitchyBND should work out of the box on Windows 8 and above.

Special situation requirements

  • For older Windows versions, WitchyBND's context menu integration may require .NET Framework 4.6
  • If you encounter unexpected problems, or if using Wine on Linux, .NET Desktop Runtime 7.0 may be required

Information about using Yabber (and Witchy) is spread widely in the community. You can start learning by visiting the Souls Modding wiki or the ServerName Discord.

🖱️ Shell context menu

The most convenient way to integrate WitchyBND is through the context menu. Since Witchy does not come with an installer, you need to launch it yourself and register the context menu with Windows.

**Registration steps:**

  • Start WitchyBND.exe in the Witchy folder
  • Navigate to the "Configure Shell Integration" option in the configuration screen and confirm
  • Navigate to the "Register WitchyBND Shell Integration" option and confirm

From now on, the **WitchyBND** menu option will appear when you right-click on files and folders in Explorer.

To remove the context menu option, simply use the Unregister WitchyBND Shell Integration option, you may need to restart Explorer afterwards.

🔄 Basic workflow

  • Use tools such as UXM Selective Unpacker to unpack game files
  • Find the file you want to extract
  • Use the "WitchyBND" option in the right-click context menu to process the selected file
  • If processing more than 15 files, you may need to use the "Send to..." menu
  • You can also drag and drop files onto the WitchyBND executable in the Witchy folder
  • If Witchy supports the file format, processing will now begin
  • To reverse this process, simply use the right-click context menu again
  • It is also possible to drag and drop the unpacked folder (or converted file) or file onto WitchyBND.exe again

**Tip:** If you only want to remove DCX compression from a DCX archive, use the **(DCX)** option in the context menu instead.

🔄 Upgrading from Yabber

In all respects, Witchy should be considered a new version of Yabber. It functions essentially the same and is used for all the same purposes. All original workflows are preserved.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
