Elden Ring SFX Recolor Tool

🎨 Tool Introduction

**ER-SFXRecolorTool** is a modding tool designed specifically for Elden's Ring that automates and simplifies the SFX (FXR) recoloring process. Specifically optimized for the tedious task of finding and adjusting RGBA values in XML files, built based on the specific patterns the author discovered in these values.

📋 Prerequisites

  • Make sure to unzip all game files using the UXM Selective Unpack tool
  • Familiar and ready to use ModEngine2 and WitchyBND tools

📥 Installation steps

  • Download the latest version of the tool
  • Extract the tools folder from the downloaded file
  • Place the extracted folder in a directory with unrestricted file read and write permissions, such as `Users\`

⚙️ Configuration instructions

  • Modify `paths_config.json` to reflect your system paths
  • Enter the SFX (FXR) ID to be modified into `recolor_mission.json`

🚀 How to use

  • Make sure you complete the steps in the **Configuration** section
  • Start `ER-SFXRecolorTool.exe`
  • Make sure **Check** mode is selected
  • Click the **CHECK** button
  • After the inspection is completed, the tool will automatically switch from **Inspect** mode to **Recolor** mode
  • View the displayed color palette and decide which color you want to change
  • Enter the new RGB value to change the color in the tool interface
  • Click the **Recolor** button
  • Once the recolor session is complete, launch the game using **ModEngine2**, no further action is required
  • (Optional) Fine-tune the input RGB values as needed. You can repeat the recolor session in **Recolor** mode and check the effect in game after each adjustment until the desired result is achieved

⚠️ Known issues

  • The tool may sometimes get stuck in **Check** mode. As a temporary solution, you can simply use the **Recolor** mode to recolor random colors with random RGB values. Once the process is complete, check the color palette in the `sfx_palettes` folder, identify the colors you want to recolor, and then recolor those specific colors with the desired RGB values
  • Trying to recolor black (0, 0, 0) as a new RGB value will often produce green instead of black, or may not work as expected. Similar issues may occur with white and gray colors as they have not been extensively tested

💡 IMPORTANT NOTE

  • Tested on **v1.16** version
  • This is not a mod, but a tool that allows you to create mods
  • No changes are made to the original game folder, ensuring the integrity of the game files is maintained. All changes are made in **ModEngine2**, which **only launches the game** offline, ensuring you **don't get banned**
  • Covers DLC SFX files as well as SFX files in the base game
  • Examples can be found in the `examples` folder
  • Specifically designed to run on the **Windows** platform

-Apply tonal processing to the input RGB values to make recoloring look more realistic and beautiful

  • No need to manually transfer SFX related files or folders

🔧 Additional information

  • The log file `log.txt` is reset and saved in each session, any errors will be recorded in this log file
  • The `recolor_mission.json` file is stored in the `prev_missions` folder with a datetime tag for each recolor session
  • Changes are saved in `recolor_mission.json`, which is automatically loaded when the tool starts
  • SFX's front and rear color palettes are found in the `sfx_palettes` folder, which is reset at the beginning of each session

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
