Tako No Kishi - Octopus Knight

🎨Module introduction

The Octopus Knight mod combines multiple individual armor pieces, most of which have been recolored, into a cohesive-looking set. The breastplate is recolored from the Ronin armor - I thought the original breastplate was cool but the color was too washed out for my liking. The recolor options available online seem to just color everything black, and I wanted to provide some color options for players who don't know how to modify the files themselves.

🐙 Design inspiration

After adding burnt red to the scarf and helmet cords, I found that the colors of the horse shield were too perfect to leave out. But I didn't like the beige horse pattern on the front, so replaced it with an octopus logo - which also inspired the "character"'s name. I like to imagine him as the faded hero leading the land octopuses!

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE

**This mod only works with the unaltered version! ** If armor is changed while at the Blessing, it will revert to the changed base model.

🛡️ Set includes

*(Equip the corresponding item to replace the appearance in the game)*

  • **HonorKinght26’s Wandering Knight helmet visor is down**
  • **Wandering Knight Helmet Recolored Ropes**
  • **Ronin Armor Recolor (2 options)**
  • Black cloak with gold trim
  • Black cloak with silver trim
  • **Brad Leggings recolored to dark color**
  • **Horse pattern wooden shield custom remake**
  • *(I like the default Ronin gloves with this outfit)*

👑 Other header options

I think the **Death Hood** looks cool too, and is more complex than the simple recolor I can do now - it's a color that matches the cape too.

🙏 Special thanks

Special thanks to **HonorKnight26**! His visor down mod is awesome! I hope to be able to directly change the helmet to switch the visor up and down in the native game. His mod achieves this. What's more, I learned the entire process of recoloring textures through his extremely helpful tutorials.

📥 Installation Guide

  • **Disable EAC**: Launch the game outside of Steam to disable Easy Anti Cheat and avoid being banned. Do not use mods in any online game (unless specifically stated by the author).
  • **Use Mod Engine 2**: It is recommended to use Mod Engine 2. After downloading and unzipping the latest version of ME2 from the GitHub link, find the LaunchMod_EldenRing batch file inside - this is the mod-friendly way to launch the game.
  • **Create Directories**: It is recommended to create several folders for ME2 to load different mod types correctly. The base directory should match the following path (remember to replace **USERNAME** with your local username):

`C:\Users\USERNAME\Downloads\ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3-win64\ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3-win64\mod`

  • **Create Subfolders**: Create the following folders within the Mod directory (not all will be used for this mod, but may be useful for other mods):
  • parts (Octopus Knight will be installed here)
  • chr
  • menu
  • msg
  • **Install the Mod**: Download the Octopus Knight zip file, and unzip the file to Downloads (or any folder of your choice).
  • **Copy Files**: Copy the required DCX files from the unzipped folder to the **parts** directory within ME2.
  • **Launch the game**: Use the previously mentioned LaunchMod_EldenRing batch file to launch the game.

💡 Useful Tips

  • If you have armor equipped when you load the game, you will need to remove and re-equip it to see the changes
  • If any part of the body becomes invisible, please restart the game
  • **This chart** is useful for determining which files belong to which armor/weapon

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
