Compress game saves to reduce space usage and increase save speed
Original author @bluedoom (until 1.1.11) and @starfi5h (1.1.12), I continue to update to support the latest game version.
Introduction
- Reduce archive size by 30% / save time by 75% (Compressed by LZ4, on HDD + i7-4790K@4.4G + DDR3 2400MHz)
| Before | After |
| - | - |
| 50MB 0.8s | 30MB 0.2s |
| 220M 3.6s | 147M 0.7s |
| 1010M 19.1s | 690M 3.6s |
Usage
- You can set compression type for manual saves and auto saves individually.
- Manual saves are compressed while using the new Save button.
- You can still get speed benefit while setting compression type to None for auto saves, and for manual saves if using the new Save button.
- You can decompress saves on load panel.
- Remember to backup your save(use original save button) before updating game to avoid loading failure.
introduce
- Reduce archive capacity by 30% / archive time by 75% (LZ4 compression, test environment: mechanical hard drive + i7-4790K@4.4G + DDR3 2400MHz)
| Original archive | After compression |
| - | - |
| 50MB 0.8s | 30MB 0.2s |
| 220M 3.6s | 147M 0.7s |
| 1010M 19.1s | 690M 3.6s |
Instructions for use
- The compression methods can be set separately for both manual and automatic archiving.
- Manual archive can be compressed and saved using the newly added save button.
- Even if it is set to no compression, automatic archiving and manual saving using the new save button can also obtain speed improvements.
- Archives can be decompressed in the Read Archives panel.
- If the game has a version update, remember to back up the archive first (use the original save button) to avoid being unable to read the archive after the update.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
