Natural Quarry Optimizer
🌟 Module function
This mod specifically optimizes the game's "natural quarries" - those rough soil biomes filled with rocky soil! After sleeping in these areas, you'll often see copper and tin ore generate (and occasionally iron and opal).
🗺️ Natural quarry mechanism
There are four ways to obtain ores in the game:
- Large winding rocks in the desert (provides iron and copper, plus quartz nodes, but does not respawn)
- Quarry built by Franklyn
- Deep mines
- "Natural" quarry
Natural quarries need to meet three conditions:
- Coarse soil biome (can be viewed on the map)
- Hard rocky soil (there are two types, the softer type is located near water)
- open space
Each tile that meets these conditions has the potential to generate new tin, copper, iron (rare), or opal (very rare) every time you sleep. The higher the mining license level, the greater the chance of generation!
🛠️ How the module works
This mod will "clean" the rough soil quarry, making sure all areas are covered with the correct type of rocky soil, and placing tall yellow markers on areas that need clearing (including buried treasure). It will tell you what percentage of the area is suitable for ore generation the next time you sleep.
**IMPORTANT NOTE**: Ore generation requires space! Not only does the ore itself need a location, but the four adjacent tiles must also be empty. So the mod extends rocky soil one tile outward, making it clear to you "if it's rocky soil, it needs to stay clear".
🎯 Buried Treasure Processing
Buried treasure also blocks ore generation! The mod places markers where treasures are buried in the quarry so you know where to dig.
💡 **Important Reminder**: Every time a block is broken with a tool (such as mining), there is a chance that a buried treasure will instantly be generated in that location. The mod will tell you where the treasure is, or you can remember to bring a metal detector (to use after digging everything).
🔄 Maintenance and use
If you dig in a quarry (like digging up buried treasure), you'll mess up the soil. you can:
- Use this mod again to repair the soil
- Use my other mod "Auto Dig Treasure" which will take out the treasure but won't mess up the soil
Ground height does not affect ore generation, so areas do not have to be level. But if you want to level the ground, this mod makes it easy: use the mod to see all the places that need leveling, level them, then use the mod again to repair the soil.
🎮 How to use
To use this mod you need:
- Any common pickaxe (basic, copper or iron)
- termite nest
Place the pickaxe in the first (leftmost) hotbar slot and the termite nest in any other slot. Using a termite nest on a plot within the "Coarse Soil" biome will change all soil to the correct hard rocky soil, and all paths covering the quarry soil will pop up to the ground with tall yellow markers.
📍 Tag description
Each tall yellow mark means something needs to be removed from the ground (like grass, rocks, or trees). If the mark seems to point to nothing, that's buried treasure.
If you destroy something on a certain tile and the yellow mark is still there, that means a buried treasure just spawned at that location. If you decide not to clear the area, the yellow mark will disappear when you leave the area.
🗺️ Navigation function
If you try to activate the mod outside of the rocky soil biome, it will place a pin on your map directing you to the nearest one, in case you're not familiar with them or aren't sure what you're looking for.
⚙️ Configuration and Security
You can enable/disable mods via settings in the config file, but the mod can also be safely removed at any time as it will not affect your save file in any way. …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
