Dark Souls III PvP Watch Dogs

A tool that helps reduce the impact of cheaters on online gaming.

about

This is a port of the original Dark Souls PvP Watchdog by /u/eur0pa, made by /u/TheSpicyChef and myself (/u/LukeYui). The goal is to bring something to Dark Souls 3 that will reduce 90% of what cheaters can do. For the remaining 10%, it will back up your save games each time you play a session so your progress is protected.

NOTE: This mod is not compatible with most other mods.

What does it do?

This tool is designed to identify cheaters and mitigate their impact on online gaming through several different methods:

Detects stat and level anomalies for people in a session, allowing you to remove players who have had their stats cheated (if you are hosting).

Prevent other players from applying dangerous effects (such as curses) to you.

Protects against various attacks, including multiple crashes.

Prevents picking up invalid items.

Prevents various bullet-related framerate drops.

Allows you to reconnect to the game server after a frame rate drop without resetting.

In addition to this, there are options to play sounds when joining an online session and automatically kick cheaters when hosting.

Can this ban me?

The tool itself cannot be given a house arrest, and the reason for this is that its release was so delayed, as the game's anti-cheat had to be disabled, and a new banning watchdog was implemented that would not benefit cheaters. It has been extensively tested and used for many months without any bans occurring.

(If you experienced a soft disablement of Watchdog 1.0.2 or 1.0.3, please see the mod page in the Forum section)

How to use it?

Get the package from the download page

Extract all contents into the Dark Souls III folder, usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game"

Edit DS3PWSettings.ini to your liking - lines starting with describe what each setting does (best viewed in Notepad++)

Play Dark Souls III without being affected by cheaters. Or at least much less than before.

FAQ:

ask:

I found a bug in the current version, can I report it?

A) Of course! This mod page and the page on GitHub are statically monitored and any bugs reported will be patched in the next version.

Q) I am aware of/have been affected by cheating that was not detected by watchdog, can I report this?

A) We're always looking to improve Watchdog, and we can't do this without the community's help; please let us know and we'll look into it for a future release.

Q) Won’t this tool benefit cheaters?

A) No.

Q) I don't have a question answered here or in the GitHub link.

A) If you need more information, or wish to report a bug, make suggestions, etc., please post the relevant information, or message me directly.

Q) Can we see the source code?

A) No, while I understand people may not like mods like this, we cannot make the source code public. The reason for this is because it is actually an anti-cheat, and freeing the source would make it easier for crooks to try to bypass the watchdog, or extract an anti-cheat bypass for themselves.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
