DS3 static term random function

Randomize all items including key items, shops, boss weapons and enemy drop tables

It is DS3's offline item randomization function, which modifies the static files loaded when the game is launched, including key item locations and stores, turning the game into a treasure hunter. Only the latest game patches installed legally from Steam are supported. Use with default modengine options (offline, alternate save file) to prevent permanent ban. This isn't the only DS3 item randomizer - for a more dynamic experience, check out Luke's DS3 Item Randomizer and Auto-Equip mods.

The following are random from each other:

  • Items found in the world, including key items
  • Enemy and boss drops, including key items
  • Commodity items
  • Dragon Path Pose
  • Items given by NPC
  • Character starting weapons and armor
  • and more!

Setup is also difficult. The most important setting is the offset slider, which can place desired items completely randomly, or in difficult and unfair locations behind long item chains, or somewhere in between. There are also sequence-breaking settings - in the most severe variants, for example the Twin Princes can drop small Lothric flags, or Gael drops small dolls. The ashes of the Lord may be anywhere.

Install

To use the mod, you must first install the DS3 Mod Engine and then run the randomizer executable.

1.Install DS3 Mod Engine. This requires the latest patch to be legally installed from Steam.

  • Download and extract DS3StaticItemRandomizer.zip directly to the DS3 game directory - "C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game" by default. The zip archive only contains a folder called "randomizer" which contains the random function executable and all other files. This folder must be added directly to your game directory, not into a subdirectory.
  • If DS3 is running, please turn it off. param files are only loaded when the game starts.
  • In Game\randomizer, run DS3StaticItemRandomizer.exe. Select your settings, click Randomize, and wait for "Complete" in the status bar.
  • Return to the game directory and edit modengine.ini to change modOverrideDirectory="\randomizer" and useModOverrideDirectory=1.
  • Start DS3, then start a new save file! (If you just installed the Mod Engine, go offline in settings.) If the starting character weapons and armor are different, then it's working. Soft locking is possible if you use re-randomization during gameplay.

To uninstall the mod, disable useModOverrideDirectory. To completely remove Mod Engine, delete input8.dll.

The random number generator has limited or no compatibility with other mods, depending on how they are implemented. If its files are overwritten by other mods, the random function is likely to be invalid or cause a soft lock. See below for details.

logic

Important changes (and not changes):

  • Maid shops and unmissable ashes/shops can contain key items. NPC shops considered unmissable are the original shops of Greirat, Cornyx, Irina, Karla, and the Stone-humped Hag. NPCs with shops always have their own ashes. (A softlock possibility - make sure to purchase the key item from Greirat before sending him there, in case you can't progress his questline.)
  • Key items don't require optional NPC quest lines: you can still kill anyone. But it's never necessary to kill an NPC (except Emma), and items that can only be obtained through NPC death are generally not very good.
  • Crow items are randomly divided into upgrade materials. Boss weapons can be used after the boss has been defeated and their soul has been found. Transposition gives unique items, usually pretty good items.
  • All introductory courses provide 10 pieces of information for free in order to recruit Orbeck. For better starting weapons, the starting status of classes other than Deprived may be slightly increased, and the starting SL is increased by the same amount.

  • All NG+ locations are enabled in base NG. If you're unfamiliar, c …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
