Trap Maker - Class Mod

Curiosity, like a squirming worm, is the perfect bait for death.

Now the trapmaker's claims will be witnessed with his own eyes. A trapmaker uses the many traps found in the dungeon to achieve his own ends. If that's not enough, his blunderbuss will assist.

The Trapmaker is a glass cannon type class best kept behind the lines. But he can provide decent damage from the backline, and often comes with conditional effects that help control the battlefield.

🎮 Module Features

  • **Unique job positioning**: A glass cannon-type character focused on utilizing traps and long-range firepower.
  • **Powerful control ability**: Skills come with various conditional effects, which can effectively affect the battlefield situation.
  • **High Damage Output**: Although the body is fragile, the damage capability is not inferior to that of melee professions.
  • **Strategic gameplay**: Players need to carefully plan their positions and use skills to maximize their advantages.

⚙️ Installation and use

**How to install**

  • Copy each subfolder in the mods folder to the Darkest Dungeon game directory (usually located in `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\`).
  • This will overwrite and add some files to various folders.
  • **It is strongly recommended to back up relevant files before operation**.
  • Once installed, the Trapmaker will appear in Stagecoach as a recruitable hero.
  • **It is recommended to start a new game**, because if you delete the mod file later, the existing professional characters in the team may cause the game to crash.

**After game update**

If the game is updated, sometimes some files needed for this mod will be cleared. Typically this requires re-copying the effects files and running the localization script again.

**Localization**

  • Go to the localization folder (usually located at `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\localization\`).
  • Make sure the `[this hero name].string_table` file is in the folder.
  • Run the `Localization.bat` file and it will compile the text table.

**Effect added**

Since there is currently no easy way to create additional effects as separate files, it is best to add them manually.

  • Locate the effect file, usually located in `C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\scripts\`.
  • Open the `effects.DARKEST` file with Notepad.
  • Copy and paste the lines of effect code provided by the module into the bottom of the file.
  • **Note**: Missing any line may cause the game to crash. So if updating or overwriting causes problems, re-paste these lines.
  • Sometimes game updates overwrite effects files, erasing all added content. If the game won't start after updating, this is most likely the problem. If this happens, re-add the effect to the mod.

**Release Notes**: V1.2 has been updated for version 1388 (post-release).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
