Trinket Overhaul
🎮 **A small mod made by me**
This mod aims to optimize the trinket system in Darkest Dungeon, making high-value rare trinkets more attractive, while balancing some common and rare trinkets.
---
✨ Core changes
- **Remove all negative effects from ancestor/very rare trinkets**: Since they are high-return rare items, they should only provide buffs, no debuffs!
- **Reworked/balanced class-specific common trinkets**: Removed the negative effects of some trinkets to make them consistent with those common trinkets that only provide buffs (such as those for Ascetics, Bounty Hunters, Tomb Raiders and Barbarians). At the same time, for the sake of balance, the gain effects of some accessories have also been weakened.
- **Adjust some common (non-class exclusive) and rare accessories**: make them more logical or practical.
---
⚠️ IMPORTANT WARNING
**Before installation, please be sure to back up your saves and game files! ** Incorrect operation may result in the permanent loss of all in-game accessories!
**Backup steps:**
- Go to "My Documents" and back up the entire "Darkest" folder.
- Go to the game installation directory and back up the "trinkets" folder.
- Go to the "shared" folder in the game installation directory and back up the "buffs" folder.
---
📥 Installation Guide
- **Download** the module file.
- **Unzip** the compressed package.
- Place the two unzipped folders **directly into the game installation directory**.
- **Run the game**. If after entering the game you find that all the accessories on your hero and in the warehouse have disappeared, it means that the module is incompatible with your game and cannot work properly.
**OPTIONAL STEP 5:** If the trinkets were wiped, use your backed up files to restore them. Place the "Darkest" folder containing the archives back to "My Documents", the "trinkets" folder containing the trinket data back to the game's home directory, and the "buffs" folder containing the gain/debuff data back to the "shared" folder in the game's home directory.
---
🗑️ Uninstall the module
- Copy and overwrite the "trinkets" and "buffs" folders you backed up earlier into the game directory.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
