Better color version of Virtues and Torments vertical painting
🎨 **Make the hero's inner struggle more harmonious with the moment of glory! **
If you've been playing Darkest Dungeon for a while, you may have noticed that almost all of the Virtues and Torments icons only use images from the default (first) color scheme. For some heroes, like Veterans, Aberrants, and Crusaders, the difference can be so subtle, or even completely consistent, that you won't notice (or care) at all. But for most heroes, when your hero's clothing and/or skin suddenly changes to a completely different color while in Virtue or Torment, it can seem very jarring and jarring, even if it's only for a few seconds.

✨ Module function
This unofficial mod aims to solve the above problems! It modifies the Virtues and Torments tiles for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th color schemes for (as of launch) 14 of the 15 classes, bringing them closer to the colors actually used by the heroes.
- **Wide Coverage**: Modified all existing professions except Tomb Raider (who is the only profession in the game with completely matching graphics and colors).
- **Pursue the original style**: The author tries his best to imitate the official art style of Red Hook, striving to seamlessly integrate with the original game instead of completely redrawing it.
- **OPTIONAL CONTENT**: Some optional files are provided for further tweaking specific details (such as the nun's hood trim).

📦 Installation and use
- **Installation**: Simply place the mod files into your `DarkestDungeon` game root directory.
- **Steam version**: Usually located in the `Steam/steamapps/common` folder. You can also right-click the game in the Steam library and select "Properties" > "Local Files" > "Browse Local Files" to quickly locate it.
- **GoG/DRM-Free version**: Usually located in the `Program Files` or `Program Files (x86)` folder under the drive where you installed the game.
- **Uninstall/Restore**: If you are not satisfied or encounter problems, you can easily restore. Just find the default first color matching (i.e. "A" color matching) folder of the corresponding hero (for example, `crusader/crusader_A/`), copy the two PNG files `hero.sprite.afflicted` and `hero.sprite.heroic` (replace "hero" with the career name) and overwrite them back. Optional files usually also include backups of the original files.

⚠️ Important notes and known differences
Please note that the game's own Virtues/Torments tiles don't exactly match the character's combat pixel art. For most classes, the differences are very minor (e.g. Joker's gloves, Bandit's coat missing trim). The two most obvious ones are:
- **Barbarian Warrior**: Her portrait has **no** face paint.
- **Sister**: She has trim on her hood in her stand-up, but not in her pixel art.
The author stated that in order to be as close to the official art as possible, these fundamental design differences were not significantly changed, but were adjusted on the existing basis to match the color matching.

🛠️ Author’s words
The author claims not to be a professional painter, but has only average Photoshop skills and no original layer or palette files. He did the best he could with limited tools and skills. Although the results are not perfect, he is pleased with the results so far.

📜 Update log (summary)
- **May 22**: Finally updated the artwork for the much-anticipated (?) Musketeer! Her situation is quite special. The basic painting is closer to her fourth color, but not completely the same. The main file replaces her A, B, and C colors. An optional file is also provided, containing a more accurate color matching of …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
