Optional Custom Spine Support
Automatic activation
COTLMP detects these plugin IDs at startup:
- io.github.xhayper.COTL_API
- InfernoDragon0.cotl.CustomSpineLoader
The compatibility layer activates only when both are installed. They are intentionally not hard dependencies in this package.
Independent Player 3 and Player 4 choices
When the integration is active, open the in-game mod settings and find the COTL Multiplayer section. Two saved dropdowns are added:
- Player 3 custom spine
- Player 4 custom spine
The available choices include:
- Match Player 1
- Match Player 2
- COTLMP default goat
- Every valid player spine registered with COTL API
The built-in API registration normally exposes Default/Lamb, Default/Goat, Default/Owl, and Default/Snake. Additional complete spine packages loaded through CustomSpineLoader are added to the same lists automatically.
Player 3 matches Player 1 by default. Player 4 matches Player 2 by default. Each selection is saved through the COTL API settings system.
Menu clipping fix
The Player 3 and Player 4 spine dropdowns open upward. This keeps long option lists visible near the bottom of the Mods settings page and prevents entries such as Snake from being cut off by the screen edge.
Safe selection routing
COTL API normally exposes global Player 1 and Player 2 spine selections. COTLMP temporarily routes the appropriate Player 3 or Player 4 selection only while that player's Start or SetSkin operation is running. The original API selection is restored immediately afterward, including when an exception occurs.
This allows extra players to use registered full Spine assets without permanently changing Player 1, Player 2, or another extra player's selection.
Spawn and scene lifecycle guard
COTL API's normal re-enable path calls the complete player Start method from OnEnable. During a multiplayer join, that can run before Unity's normal Start timing and initialize player HUD objects while the spawn menu is still transitioning.
COTLMP now guards that path:
- A player's first spawn follows Unity's normal initialization order.
- Later re-enables reapply only the API spine setup.
- The complete player and HUD initialization path is not rerun.
This prevents duplicated or malformed HUD text during player spawning while preserving custom skins across respawns and scene transitions.
Color behavior
When a registered custom full spine is active, COTLMP preserves that spine's intended body colors. COTLMP's player-colored rings, markers, and HUD indicators remain active. Selecting the COTLMP default goat restores the normal extra-player tint behavior.
Asset requirements
COTLMP routes complete Spine assets; it does not synthesize missing art or animations. External character packs still need the directional, interaction, combat, damage, and special-state animations expected by the game.
Multiplayer Fixes Included
- Player 3 and Player 4 support for trees, rocks, rubble, and berry interactions.
- Safer altar, sermon, ritual, and cancellation handling for extra players.
- Two-player fishing participation while Players 3 and 4 remain free and are excluded from the minigame's completion checks.
- Extra-player recovery across teleporters, buildings, and scene transitions.
- Separate dungeon health and faith-ammo HUD ownership for additional players.
- Extra dungeon weapon and curse selection support.
- Player-aware tarot, enemy-spawn, and room-size scaling modules.
FlockFocus
FlockFocus and its COTLMP HUD compatibility bridge are included. FlockFocus lets a player claim camera focus with a controller input, while the compatibility bri
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
