Social Relationship Extension (SRE) – Reworked

Currently maintained on CK3 version 1.19. *

Relationships should be important. This is a fan-maintained remaster of Social Relations Expanded (SRE), focused on making friendships, competition, family ties, lovers, soulmates, and social connections more meaningful in everyday gameplay. The goal of this version is not to replace the original concept, but to maintain its spirit in the new version of CK3, while making the core system more stable and playable.

work in progress

This is an ongoing rework, but should still be considered an ongoing work in progress. The goal is to keep Social Relations Expanded playable and stable on the current CK3 version, while gradually improving polish, balance, and long-term stability. Feedback, bug reports and screenshots are very welcome.

production staff

Original Mods & Concepts: Big Uncle Full credit for the original concepts, systems, and foundations goes to Big Uncle and the original Social Relations Expanded work. 1.18 Continued Work: Clem Special thanks to Clem for his continued work and updates on CK3 1.18, helping SRE survive in subsequent releases. Rework and maintenance: This rework by Elchman69 updates, stabilizes and maintains the core system of the current CK3 version. I do not claim ownership of the original mod, name, concept or design. If the original author or former maintainer wishes to have this version removed, renamed, differently credited, or altered, I will honor this request. Without the original SRE mod and its community efforts, this refactor would not exist.

What this module does

Social Relationships Expanded takes personal relationships beyond the personal relationship between two directly involved characters. Your actions now can affect:

family members

close relative

extended family

friends

best friend

lovers

soul mate

competitors

mortal enemy

family friends

In short: If you hurt someone, those close to you are likely to remember it. If you help others, their family and friends may respect you for it.

Core functions

common acquaintance

Friends of friends, competitors of competitors, and enemies of your close relationships all influence ratings. Example:

A common opponent can bring characters closer together.

Injuring someone else's friend may damage your reputation with them.

Close relationships with powerful families can be politically important.

family friends

A character who develops deep bonds with multiple members of the family may be considered a family friend. This creates a more natural sense of family loyalty, long-term friendships, and social belonging.

more meaningful incarceration

Incarceration now has wider social consequences. If you imprison, characters may react:

their close family

their extended family

their friends

their best friend

their lover

their soul mate

their opponents

their mortal enemy

Competitors may approve. Relatives may hate you for this.

Prisons, Dungeons and House Arrest Responses

This rework includes the following work responses:

imprisonment

get out of jail

ransom

execution

torture

Transfer prisoners to dungeon

Transfer prisoner to house arrest

social status

Characters can develop wider social reputations based on their relationships and the perceptions of others. This includes social connections, popularity, high-level friends, hostile reputations, and slander from competitors.

Functional planning

Future planned work includes:

✓ Rescue and Revenge Remastered A standalone remaster of Rescue and Revenge, focusing on private wars of rescue, private wars of revenge, and deeper reactions from family, friends, lovers, soul mates, and family friends.

✓ Inheritance Relationship Reworked An independent remake of Inheritance Relationship, focusing on the friendship, competition, resentment and social memory between the heir and predecessor.

□ New relationship-oriented system Blood debts, inheritance grudges, blood-stained letters, rescue nego …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
