Overview

Oathbound is a role-playing-focused mod that revolves around a new type of relationship. It introduces new character interactions in Diplomacy mode, allowing landless adventurers to swear fealty to a ruler of their choice. This creates a unique relationship between the Oathkeeper (the adventurer) and the Oathbearer (the ruler), which can only be severed upon the death of either party.

feature

Oath - As a landless adventurer, swear allegiance to the ruler and become his sworn sword and loyal follower. Every year, pledge holders are randomly sent pledge supplies.

Oath Traits - +3 warrior, +10 overall rating, +25 rating against other sworn characters, +1 monthly reputation. There are also links to their pledge holders.

Oath Holder Trait - No bonus, but allows you to see who their oath bearer is.

Oathbreaker trait - monthly reputation -1, overall rating dropped significantly by 50.

Oath Alliance - Unlike traditional alliances, oath holders can call oath holders to war (automatically accepted), but oath holders cannot call oath holders to fight. Additionally, Oathbearers do not have to be war leaders, so they can call upon Oathbearers to fight in every war they participate in. This forms a one-sided but thematically appropriate bond of responsibility and service. (Alignments are not shown on character cards.)

Perspective - All events (where reasonable) and content are written both ways, meaning that as a ruler, adventurers can approach you for oaths, and if you are an adventurer, you can obviously approach the ruler.

NEW: Quest System (in development) – Act as a physical extension of your Oath Bearer will. Take on dynamic and focused missions that require you to pack up camp, travel across the realm, and solve the Oath Bearer's problems (release your inner Uhtred).

Activity

Vows – taken from different angles depending on the situation. Forced Oath - When an ambitious oath bearer dies (dying), they will likely force the oath bearer to swear fealty to their heir (only if the heir is their child). (Note: Currently only AI rulers can trigger this mechanism.)

character interaction

Take the Oath of Allegiance - As an adventurer, this is how you become the Ruler's Oath. Be My Oath - As a ruler, you can ask adventurers to swear allegiance to you in exchange for reputation and gold coins.

judgment

Enforce local control of Oath Bearers – Help increase Oath Bearer control in the county where your camp is located. Make your oath permanent - a new decision, once pressed, for you and your future bloodline to pass down the oath to the oath bearer's bloodline. When an Oath Bearer dies, you automatically become their heir's Oath Bearer. If the oath bearer dies, your heirs will automatically swear an oath to the oath bearer. Your heir must belong to your dynasty, and the oath bearer's heir must also belong to their dynasty. This will continue forever until the bond between you and their bloodline is truly broken (no one is qualified to swear or be sworn to). (Currently, this includes branches of the dynasty. I wonder if it would be better to just buy the house, or if it would be another decision entirely.)

plan

Swing Vassals for Your Oath Bearers - You can now help Oath Bearers move towards a stable kingdom by representing individual vassals. (Currently players only.) Oath Forgery – A hostile conspiracy in which rulers attempt to force landless adventurers to become their oath bearers. (Both players and AI can use this feature.)

New: Mission system

The mission system is currently under active development, introducing multiple ways to benefit your Oath Bearers. Missions are generally divided into three categories: travel, friendly plans, and hostile plans.

Execution of the Order: When control of their county declines, the Oath Bearers may send you to assist. Go to that troubled area, build a camp, then place a patrol to restore control to 100. Your combat effectiveness depends on your martial arts skills and reputation level. Th …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
