Chronicles mod for Crusader Kings III
Updated to CK3 1.19 (Scribe) — v1.7.0
I always feel like there's something missing in Europa Universalis 3 when a ruler dies. You'll receive a notification, perhaps triggering a succession crisis, and then move on to the next character. But what did that ruler actually do? The wars they participated in, the friends they made, the crimes they committed, the beliefs they transformed, and the culture they shaped? All of this is...gone.
Grand Remembrance attempts to solve this problem. When your ruler dies, the mod generates a personalized obituary written by someone who really knew them. If the recorder loved them, they would describe them with pride. If they hate them, it will show as well. If they barely know them, you're going to get some cold and impersonal content. The tone changes depending on who is writing it.
Each obituary entry has 7 randomized variations, so even rulers with similar lives won't read the same. Throughout the long run of a dynasty, Chronicles stays fresh rather than repeating itself.
**Dynasty and Family Obituaries**
It's not just your player character anymore. When an AI-controlled member of your dynasty dies, they now receive a full obituary and chronicle page. You can choose the threshold - Duke and above, King and above, or Emperor only. Their pages appear in the Dynasty Chronicles, alongside your rulers, so the history of your dynasty is not just about what you did, but what your entire family achieved.
There is also a separate option for next of kin. When turned on, your parents, siblings, children, and spouse will all be remembered when they pass away, regardless of whether they held titles. The landless brother who left home for adventure? He will also get a page of biography. Whenever a dynasty or family member completes a biography, you will receive a reminder notification.
**Track content**
- Titles created, gained and lost during his reign – including year of creation and component territories
- Battles, wars, and enemies along the way
- Nomad invasion and Chinese expansion campaign (1.19)
- Alliances, friendships, murders, kidnappings and executions
- Pilgrimages, feasts, tournaments and more
- Belief conversion and heritage crossing, including specific texts for source and target groups
- Cultural changes, government reforms, and languages learned
- Capital moves and major dynastic moments
- Kingdoms and empires were granted, including to whom
- RICE-specific headings and distinctions (17 items, not required for RICE)
**Legacy Score & Reputation**
At the end of a ruler's life, the mod evaluates how well they completed their education, stayed true to their character, and achieved achievements. This score translates into real in-game reputation for the dynasty - it's not just a fancy description, it actually matters.
**Chronicle Pedestal Artifact**
Your dynasty will accumulate a Chronicle pedestal artifact over time, which gradually improves from ordinary quality to excellent quality, with buffs as it improves. By default, only legendary quality obituaries will contribute to the pedestal, but there is a game rule that allows all qualities to contribute if you want it to grow faster.
**Game Rules**
All settings can be configured under the flavor options in the pre-game settings interface:
- Memorial Trophies -- All, Reduced or Closed. Controls reputation, piety and dynastic reputation from obituary selection. Reputation effects and Chronicle pedestals are unaffected.
- Dynasty member obituaries -- players only, Duke+, King+ or Emperor. Sets the title threshold for members of an AI dynasty to receive obituaries.
- Next of kin obituaries -- on or off. When on, parents, siblings, children, and spouses receive obituaries regardless of title or territory status.
- Chronicle Pedestal Eligibility -- Legend only or all levels. Controls which obituary scores count towards the Dynasty's Chronicle pedestal.
- Chronicle filter -- all c …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
