PAM to FBX/OBJ converter
✨ Tool Introduction
This is a utility tool specially designed for "Crimson Desert". It can convert the `.pam` and `.pamlod` files in the game to the common **FBX** or **OBJ** format, which is convenient for you to open and edit in Blender or any other 3D software.
📦 Available versions
To facilitate users with different needs, we provide two versions:
- **CDPamExtractor.exe**: independent executable file, no need to install any dependencies, just download and use it!
- **Python script (zip)**: Suitable for users who have already installed a Python environment, providing more customization possibilities.
**GitHub project address**: Lathiel/crimson-desert-pam-extractor

🚀 How to use
Run `CDPamExtractor.exe` (or `gui.bat` in the unzipped package), and a dark-themed graphical interface will open.
**Single file mode**
- Select a `.pam` or `.pamlod` file.
- Select your desired output format (FBX or OBJ).
- Select grid mode (merge all subgrids or split by subgrids).
- Click the **Extract** button!
**Batch Mode**
- Directly specify a folder, and the tool will automatically process all `.pam` and `.pamlod` files in the folder and display a real-time progress bar.
- **Tips**: You can also drag files or folders directly to the program window, which makes the operation faster!
**Output Description**:
- The tool will generate the converted file in the folder you specify (or a subfolder created by default next to the source file).
- If a `.pamlod` (level of detail) file exists alongside a `.pam` file, LOD data is automatically extracted.
- Matching `.dds` texture files are also automatically copied to the output folder.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES AND RESTRICTIONS
**Author's Statement**: I am a 3D artist, not a professional programmer. This tool was built with the help of the VS Code AI assistant and my understanding of file formats. It may not be able to handle every model.
**Currently known limitations**:
- **Bone/Skeleton not supported**: This tool only handles geometry (model mesh) and does not include animation skeletal data.
- **Texture matching based on file name**: If the texture file names referenced by the model do not match, you will need to manually find and copy these texture files.
Please consider this tool a **starting point** for more experienced friends to improve upon or integrate into their own workflows.

📋 Operating requirements
- **exe version**: zero dependencies! Just run it directly after downloading.
- **script/zip version**:
- Requires **Python 3.8** or higher. Go to the official website to download
- Basic extraction functionality requires no additional installation packages.
- If you want to use the drag and drop function in the graphical interface, you can optionally install `tkinterdnd2` (`pip install tkinterdnd2`).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
