Let the cat be quiet
Do you think the cat in "Red Desert" meows a little too often? Want a cat but can't stand the noise it makes? Then, this mod is for you! 🎮
✨ Module Introduction
This mod will mute all 56 cat vocalizations in the game - including meows, hisses, growls, screams, and all other feline sounds. The cats still show up, behave normally, and can interact (pet, pick up, cuddle). They just don't make any noise anymore.
🔧 How it works
The mod achieves muting by clearing the audio data in the `sfx_cat` Wwise sound library file (located at `481770683.bnk` in the `0004.paz` archive). The structure of the sound effects library remains unchanged, so the game's audio event system still works, it just plays silent. No game logic, save data or other files will be touched, and the achievement system will not be affected**.
🔄 Security and recovery
- **AUTO BACKUP**: A backup of the original sound effects library will be automatically saved on first run.
- **Restore at Any Time**: You can restore the cat's original voice at any time using the restore option that comes with the mod, or verify the integrity of the game files through Steam.
- **Transparent Open Source**: The complete source code is included in the download, so you can see exactly what this executable does.
📥 Installation Guide

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
