Radiant Samurais Better Samurai
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Update status~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
v3.0 updated on 7/09/2018. See Changes in Change Comment Button for more information. Warrior Monk is no longer involved in this mod and has been moved to one of my other mods: Radiant Better Unit Promotions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inspired by the unique promotion tree that already existed for Warrior Monk, the new Samurai promotion tree will lead you through the thirsty path, allowing your favorite Japanese units to deploy their full power and become masters of the blade. But in order to keep the game balanced and maintain the difficulty, the unit cost and maintenance of Samurai is greatly increased, and there are only 2 vanillas in it.
So samurai can cost you so much, and in some cases it's still difficult to have an army of them, kind of like in feudal Japan. But at some point, if you train well, they can even defeat more, or possibly more advanced units.
This mod adds a significant inconvenience in balancing the samurai's new powers. It cannot now be upgraded or upgraded from any other unit in the game. Because I had to put a little dent in it because I also wanted the player to be able to tear up his samurai losses and feel like the samurai didn't want to evolve, like Japan did in our real history (the samurai were past rifle and gatling gun technology). The third reason is that their unique promo trees break down with upgrading/upgrading units, resulting in a messy OverPowered dual-activity promo tree that can hurt your saves. I think this is a smart decision for game balance (as their awesome skills may make them a bit weak in endgame combat but if you play smart it's still fun to see them take on modern units!)
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MOD CONTENT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's see how much detail this mod goes into:
----Samurai Change------
The unit's original combat strength remains at 50.
- Unit cost increased to 250 to produce (instead of 160).
- Unit maintenance increased to 5 (instead of 3)
- Get free promotions after building.
- Cannot be upgraded or upgraded from any unit in the game.
- Associated with the unique and powerful Samurai promotion tree.
1a: "Radiant Honor" = 40% of the strength of dead units turned into a cultural bonus. (Because samurai culture is huge even today in 2018 and around the world. Victims, villagers or allies, talk about them, fear them)
1b: "Sun Strike" = 2x flanking bonus.
2a: "Akuma Armors" are +7 Strength in all situations. Adds an additional +5 when defending.
2b: "Wind Slicer" = +2 athletic bonus.
3a: "Meikyo Shisui" = Heals at the end of each turn even if moved or attacked.
3b: "Masamune Blades" = +3 Strength in all situations. Adds an additional +15 when attacking.
Final: "Niten Ichi Ryu" = Two more attacks. (Be a true blade master now! But keep an eye on your HP before the third attack!)
- Promotional Tree game pop-up icons have been hand drawn digitally and set accordingly!
- The ugly samurai unit icon (in my humble opinion) has been replaced with a much cooler weapon!
- This icon has been replaced everywhere (including Civiliopedia) in all sizes!
- The truly ugly samurai portrait (in my humble opinion) has been replaced by a much better one!
- Civiledia text about these unique promotions (if you want a reading session!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MOD COMPATIBILITY~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
This mod only works when creating a brand new game when activated and cannot be used on existing saves. Sorry, this is unavoidable.
This mod is designed to be compatible with most existing mods (tested with over 150 of my mods). Although if you run into a problem you can drop me a note if you need help fixing it manually.
- Compatible with "Steel and thunder: Unit Expansion": Samurai will not replace LongSwordMan and will become a separate and independent unit.
- Compatible with "Improved Japan": the Samurai will not be upgraded from the Swordman, but will be a completely separate a …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
