Introduction:
A roughly true starting location, a standard-sized map of Earth in the Alpha phase, called Paul's Standard Earth or PSE. It works well, but admittedly it needs more work. Therefore, the map will be updated over time to become more balanced and offer more features.
plan:
Alpha version (for now): This mapping will remain an Alpha version until official mod tools are released for Civ 6.
Beta version: the first mapping after the release of the mod tool. This will test whether maps and mods made now will still work when the official Mod Tools are released.
Official version: When the map works as intended after the Mod Tools release, the official version v1.0 will be available.
detail:
Like many other Civilization fans, I was disappointed to see that the True Start Location Earth map was not included in the game. To save myself some time, I searched for a map of Earth and found only one available: Gedemon's Yet Not Another Map Pack. Gedemon did a great job with the Earth map, but, like many others, my computer couldn't handle it in the later stages of the game. Sadly, the amazing YNAMP is unplayable for me.
Seeing no other options, I decided to try making a standard size TSL Earth map. Frankly, just in the past year or so I've figured out how to make mods on Civ 5 and even got a custom earth map to work in multiplayer (it's my favorite type of map and the people I play with). If I can do this on Civ 5, I think it might not be too difficult to modify custom maps on Civ 6.
Of course, the cold hard fact is that there are no officially available mod tools for Civilization 6. However, with some minor changes to the code I learned from the extraordinary Civ fan community, I got Worldbuilder working. I'm not sure I should take the time to build a decent map of the Earth, considering the fact that we shouldn't be able to do that. However, Gedemon has created a TSL Earth map that can be played online, so I know it's possible. But we can use simple tools to get the job done.
This RTSL standard earth map is not perfect. The scale is more prominent in Europe, which makes Africa and Asia slightly different. However, I think for the terrain itself, it's not bad. I plan to release a true TSL standard earth map later, but for now I'm focusing on perfecting this Map Mod first.
Features:
- Earth map, set to standard size: 80 x 52 (2-12 players, usually has 4 natural wonders, but there are no natural wonders in this map due to the difficulty of putting them into Worldbuilder). This is a great option for those who don't have a high-end computer.
- Approximately true starting point of all civilizations, except the Scythia and Aztecs which started in North America, which started in South America (around Venezuela). All other civs will appear on or very close to their TSL. For example, Roman, French, Greek, Brazilian, Chinese, Egyptian, Kongolese and most others are very popular. Due to the size and design of the map, Americans start a few tiles north of their capital; the same applies to Britain, Germany, Russia, and Japan. But you will be in the right field. The current starting position is not set in stone for me. I will adjust them if necessary based on feedback and my own experience.
- Maps can be played in multiplayer! That’s right! If you prefer to play with friends, make sure you have the map in your Civ6 Mods folder (see installation instructions after this feature section). However, in multiplayer games, the maximum number of players/civilizations is 8.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
