Kami's unit balance mod unit balance mod
Are you also super annoyed that the only units you really need are knights and archers or crossbowmen? Would you also like your unit selection to be more diverse?
This mod reduces the power of ranged and cavalry units and/or increases the power of other land units.
Short summary of changes:
Early cavalry units were jittery (and therefore less useful as interception units now)
The melee strength of most ranged units has been reduced
The cost of siege units and some support units has been reduced by about 20% (since there are no bonuses for Civic cards)
Cost reduction for late game non-mechanical units such as infantry and anti-tanks
The tank is a bit expensive
Most other unique units have been polished to make them more useful
Upgrade cost increased (about 50%)
Three promotions (Commando, Square, Wing) were improved

Square: Triple support bonuses, not double them
Flanking: Triple flanking bonus, not double
other:
Promotional expenses increase. Upgrade cost multiplier increased from 75 to 110. This equates to approximately 40-50% increase in upgrade cost if the hammer difference between the original unit and the upgraded unit is large enough. Otherwise the upgrade cost percentage will be larger (e.g. Slinger going into Archer).
Many of the ideas for unique unit improvements came from Pokiehl's Better <Civ name> Mod's. So I definitely don't expect these changes to be well received. I recommend you check out these mods on Steam Workshop as well. They are good.
Installation Instructions: Download the mod and place it in your game's Mods folder …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
