Improved Water Yields Improved Water Yields
This module provides an overhaul of how the port and its buildings work.
philosophy
There are three design concepts behind this mod:
Make sea levels more equal in coastal cities or cities.
Reward careful district planning.
Reward investment over time.
For this reason, the base terrain output remains unchanged. Conversely, building a harbor area immediately increases the production of all maritime terrain by 1 food. Further investment in the area will result in more valuable resources and additional terrain bonuses.
Ultimately, bare shore tiles will yield 3f/2g, while ocean tiles will yield 3f/1g. On the other hand, resources will be very fertile. The exposed sea tiles in this model aren't designed to be incredibly efficient, but are balanced so working them is still a net gain. A well-located port can provide a very large amount of food, and a well-balanced specialist can add some extra production to an island city.
Port adjacency bonus
+2 food and +1 gold for each adjacent city center, +1 food and +1 gold for each adjacent ocean resource
Harbor Building
Lighthouse: +1 food for all marine resources
Shipyard: Produces equivalent to port adjacency bonus, +1 gold to coast and ocean tiles
Harbor: +1 food for coast and ocean tiles, +1 production for all ocean resources
These changes replace all previous building output
Other changes
Port Expert: Provides +1 Food, +1 Gold and +1 Production
Naval Infrastructure and Economic Alliance policies increase port food and gold adjacency bonuses by 100%
Cartography now adds fishing boat gold +1 instead of +2
compatibility
Updated with Summer 2017
Fish Farms are compatible with this mod. If both mods are activated, Fish Farms makes some changes:
Fishing boats no longer receive adjacency bonuses
Extra Harbor Gold adjacency bonus removed
Additional trade route gold bonus from Harbors reduced from 2 to 1

This mod overhauls how the Harbor and its buildings work.
Philosophy
The design philosophy behind this mod is threefold:
To make coastal cities or cities with many sea tiles more balanced.
To reward careful district planning.
To reward investment over time.
To that end, base terrain yields are unchanged. Rather, building the Harbor district immediately increases all sea terrain yields by 1 food. Further investment into the district is rewarded in more valuable resources and an additional terrain bonus.
Ultimately, bare coast tiles will yield 3f/2g and ocean tiles will yield 3f/1g. Resources, on the other hand, will be very fertile. Bare sea tiles in this mod are not designed to be incredibly productive, but are balanced so that working them will still be a net gain. Well-placed harbors can provide extraordinarily large amounts of food, and well-balanced specialists can add just a bit of extra production to island cities.
Harbor Adjacency Bonus
+2 food and +1 gold per adjacent City Center, +1 food and +1 gold per adjacent sea resource
Harbor Buildings
Lighthouse: +1 food to all sea resources
Shipyard: production equal to Harbor adjacency bonus, +1 gold to coast and ocean tiles
Seaport: +1 food to coast and ocean tiles, +1 production to all sea resources
These changes replace all prior building yields.
Other Changes
Harbor Specialists: provide +1 food, +1 gold, and +1 production
Naval Infrastructure and Economic Union policies increase both the Harbor food and gold adjacency bonuses by 100%
Cartography now increases Fishing Boat gold by +1 instead of +2
Compatibility
Compatible with the Summer 2017 Update
Fish Farms is compatible with this mod. Several changes are made to Fish Farms if both mods are activated:
Fishing Boats no longer gain adjacency bonuses
The additional Harbor gold adjacency bonus is removed
The additional trade route gold bonus from Harbors is reduced from 2 …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
