Forest forest

Marianne the Maid of Sherwood Forest

"Robin was an inspiring military leader but had no interest in governing. Thus, after King John's corrupt nobles and the bigotry and greed of the Catholic Church were driven from the forest, Mary Marian would have been left behind."

I had considered Robin as the leader, but no existing leader (artwork I could borrow) looked suitable right now, so Marian was the one. I think it's more realistic anyway (and I'm a big fan of strong women).

The general concept is a civilization based on two basic principles that I want Maid Marian to work with:

•Altruism

•Make full use of forests.

However, I can hardly ignore Merry Men's status as a powerful guerrilla force. Therefore, the Hooded Archer should not be underestimated.

Maid Marian of Sherwood Forest

"Robin was an inspirational military leader but had no interest in governing. Thus after King John’s corrupt aristocrats and the Catholic Church’s bigotry and greed were displaced from the forest it fell to you, Maid Marian, to govern."

I'd have considered Robin as leader, but there's no existing leader (who's art I could borrow) who looks suitable, so Marian it is. Anyway I think this is more realistic (and I'm a big fan of strong women).

The general concept is of a civilization based on the two fundamental principles that I would have expected Maid Marian to run with:

  • Altruism
  • Make the best of the forest.

However, I could hardly have overlooked the Merry Men's place as a strong guerilla force. Hence the Hooded Archers, who should not to be underestimated.

Spoiler Details:

So far it seems at least strong. I wouldn't play this on less than Prince, but then I wouldn't play at less than Prince anyway.

At some point in the future (when it's possible) I plan to make a version with the Forest Camps and Forest Retreats visible, but:

a) Seeing the trees fits with my green concept for the civilization, so I'll only show maybe a lookout tower and a campfire (respectively).

b) You can find them by hovering the mouse over them and see Forest Retreats in strategic view once they have a building. Anyway the locations should flow naturally from the terrain.

c) You don't need to know where you placed them as I've made them non-plunderable (I think. Not sure how to test that).

d) I wanted to let you guys and gals play it already

So far, it seems to be at least robust. I wouldn’t do it any less than Prince, but no matter what, I wouldn’t do it any less than Prince.

At some point in the future (when possible) I plan to make versions of Forest Camp and Forest Resort, but:

a) Seeing trees fits my green concept of civilization, so I'll only show a watchtower and campfire (respectively).

b) You can find Forest Retreats by hovering over them and see Forest Retreats in the strategy view once they have buildings. Regardless, these locations should flow naturally from the terrain.

c) You don't need to know where you put them since I made them unlootable (I think. Not sure how to test that).

d) I want you to play with the boys

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
