Content introduction:
This Reshade preset is designed to make the game look softer and give it a decent cinematic look. It also fixes the extreme blur caused by TAA while adding its own high-quality Gaussian blur to make everything look softer and more attractive. On top of that it adds fake HDR and increases color depth.
This is my personal Reshade preset that I'm posting here due to multiple requests. Let's review what it does.
- Added fake HDR - HDR to make blacks darker and whites more "pop".
- Increase color depth without oversaturation.
- Removed harsh green filter used by the game.
- Added non-performance intensive SMAA to smooth edges.
- Intelligently sharpen images so they remain sharp when using TAA (without adding aliasing effects).
-Apply its own color palette to give the game a more "cinematic" look. I don't know what else to call it. It looks good to me.
- Added your own high-quality Gaussian blur to soften edges and make everything look more attractive.
This is intended for use with TAA. If you use any other form of anti-aliasing, image quality may suffer from being too sharp. I also recommend using TAA since FXAA is basically just a lower quality version of it. It honestly doesn't do anything for you but blurs the screen even more.
If you plan to use it without TAA (not recommended), consider turning off "Lumashapen", which is the filter used to sharpen TAA.
You can also turn it off in the Reshade settings if you don't like the Gaussian Blur effect or don't want it to be 3-4 fps away from what you need.
Game: Resident Evil 2: Remake
Author: F00X
Installation method:
You obviously need Reshade. Its latest version can be found on their website Reshade.me. (Select DirectX 10+ when installing)
It will ask you if you want to download the shader pack. The answer is yes. Select the following;
- Deband
- Color
- Curve
- FakeHDR
- Tonemap
- Vibrance
- LiftGammaGain
- Lumasharpen
- Gaussian blur
- SMAA! important! - This preset requires more than two shaders, which are not options in the default package. These are "Clarity2" and "Colorfilter". Please download it here**. Extract "Clarity2.fx" + "ColorFilter.fx" and put them into "\reshade-shaders\shaders"
Now download the preset here and place it into your main Resident Evil 2 Remake folder.
If you did everything correctly, you can now start the game and Reshade will let you know it's working by initializing at the top. You may need to press "Home/Pos 1" and select a preset at the top to open it. You may also have to check all shader boxes to activate all of them. You can deactivate or activate your favorite content. You are even free to adjust the settings if needed. Once done, check Performance Mode at the bottom and turn off the overlay again
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
