Tool introduction:

QuickBMS Universal File Extractor and Reimporter 0.9.2 (quickbms)

Generic script-based file extractor and re-importer.

QuickBMS supports a large number of games and file formats, archiving, encryption, compression, obfuscation and other algorithms.

QuickBMS uses a minimalist GUI if the executable is double-clicked (started normally) or a command line if started from the console. Many useful and advanced options can be activated by using the second mode or a link to the executable.

history:

The idea stemmed from the need for a simple and fast solution for handling the archives used by most games, without wasting time writing a standalone tool containing a lot of C code just for basic file formats.

So this tool was created primarily for myself to quickly create my extractors, and secondarily for any other user who wants to do the same without learning a real programming language.

The BMS language is basic, easy to use and has been around for over 10 years, all I've done is enhance it to suit my personal needs and make life easier when dealing with complex archives and file formats.

feature:

  • Open source and multi-platform, tested on Windows (even Win98) and GNU/Linux (x86 and PPC)
  • Works from command line and GUI (Windows only, just double-click quickbms.exe)
  • Reimport and Reimport 2 modes for reinjecting modified files into the archive
  • Supports a large number of encryption algorithms, even some proprietary algorithms
  • Supports a large number of compression algorithms (more than 700), even some proprietary algorithms
  • Supports a large number of hashing algorithms
  • Support other types of algorithms (like base64) and/or obfuscation (xor, rot, etc.)
  • Supports calling DLL and raw dump functions using almost any known calling convention
  • Support bit operations and switchable little/big endian
  • Simple and dynamic language that allows many operations, reducing the percentage of archives and formats that cannot be easily supported
  • Verbose option (-V) to display all required details during inverting and testing file formats
  • HTML output (-H) automatically applies colors and names to fields parsed during script usage: zip.bms example at q3infoboom.zip
  • Possibility to use the tool as a blind scanner for compression, encryption and crc/checksum algorithms
  • Supports web sockets, SSL and http/https
  • Support for other alternative input/output interfaces such as processes (including debugging and automatic breakpoint recovery), audio, video and Windows messages
  • Supports visualizing and creating various types of data, such as x86 assembly, IP address, time_t, FILETIME, ClassID, etc.
  • Supports C-like structures and basic syntax for easy handling of file formats
  • Support any command line decompressor/decryptor/anything_else (Comtype and Encryption commands) via EXECUTE method
  • Read and write operations
  • quickbms_4gb_files.exe is a native 32-bit program, setting all variables to 64-bit can be useful in some situations
  • Planned future developments will include more advanced features for reverse engineers and power users
  • Customizable CRC engine
  • Extensive scripts supporting hundreds of file formats and thousands of games
  • Experimental game localization (string editing)
  • Create ISO images and ZIP archives as alternative outputs
  • Embedded C compiler uses C functions at …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
