🎧 BigDJ
Music mode for Big Walk voice chat.
BigDJ lets you stream music through voice chat without the speech processing, distance muffling, and voice-activity gating that normally destroy in-game music playback.
✨ What it does
Big Walk's voice chat is tuned strictly for conversation:
- It only transmits when it detects a voice.
- It applies aggressive noise suppression and background removal.
- It muffles audio over distance and head turns in 3D proximity.
- Cave and island reverberation muddles instrumentals.
BigDJ solves all of this with a single hotkey:
| | Normal Voice | Music Mode (F9) |
|---|---|---|
| Transmission | Only while speech is detected (volume pumps with the music) | Always transmitting — a constant, unbroken stream |
| Broadcast Mode | 3D proximity only (muffled by distance & orientation) | Proximity 3D or Island Radio 2D (direct lobby-wide broadcast) |
| Speech Cleanup | Denoise + background removal (eats cymbals, bass & tails) | Turned down (configurable, defaults to untouched) |
| Acoustics | Cavernous reverb and echo applied in terrain | Dry Acoustics — suppresses environmental reverberation |
| Monitoring | None | Live VU Meter with real-time dB readout & peak alerts |
| Your Settings | — | Snapshotted and restored when you toggle off |
For routing music into the microphone input selected by Big Walk, programs such as Logitech Mixline or VB-Audio are recommended.
🆕 1.2.2 Changes
- No settings-mod dependency: BigDJ no longer references or requires ModSettingsMenu. On Big Walk 1.6, MSM 1.1.2 fails to build its own settings panel (it hard-codes native menu row names the game renamed), and the old hard dependency meant a broken settings menu could take BigDJ down with it. BigDJ now loads on its own and shows its rows in whichever settings menu you have installed.
- Big Walk 1.6 compatibility: rebuilt and verified against the 1.6 interop assemblies.
🆕 1.2.1 Changes
- Removed ChannelPriority.High: Fixed an issue where Dissonance's priority ducking system muted clients for each other when the host broadcast music at High priority. All voice channels now stream at standard default priority so clients can always converse normally while music plays.
1.2.0 Changes
- Island Radio 2D Mode: Switch between traditional 3D proximity audio and a lobby-wide 2D radio broadcast via native CmdSet2DVoice. When enabled, everyone in the session hears your audio directly without distance falloff or directional head panning!
- Real-Time Graphical VU Meter: The on-screen HUD overlay now samples your microphone audio at 20 Hz, rendering a live ASCII volume bar, precise dB readout, and peak warning indicator ((PEAKING!) / (OPTIMAL) / (SILENT)).
- Dry Acoustics & Echo Suppression: Suppresses cave and island reverberation (CmdSetEchoAmount(0) and SelfEcho.EchoOn = false) so instrumentals stay crisp and clear inside underground or enclosed areas.
- Zero-Allocation Core: Fully upgraded to use WorldManager.localPlayerCharacter, native player lists, and local transform caching for zero GC stutter.
1.1.0 Changes
- DSP presets: Untouched, Light Cleanup, and Custom.
- Optional always-visible overlay showing music and transmission state.
- Transmit start/stop edge logging and stronger scene/recovery handling.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
