Woodcutter NPC
Hire woodcutters to chop trees for you. Build a Woodcutter's Post, hire a woodcutter there,
hand it an axe and start it - it fells trees in the post's work zone, chops the logs, picks up the
wood and brings it back to the post's storage. When the zone is cleared it waits by the post and
goes back to work on its own as soon as something regrows.

Features
- Woodcutter's Post (hammer, Crafting tab, 10 wood, no workbench needed)
- E - the post's storage: the top row is for axes, the rest for wood and other items
- Shift + E - the post window: hiring, the woodcutter list, the work zone, upgrades
- Woodcutters
- Swing the axe you put in their first slot, with its real stats: chop damage, upgrade level,
tool tier (a stone axe won't touch an oak) and durability
- Have their own woodcutting skill: a new woodcutter hits like a beginner player and gets
better with every swing, up to 100 (shown in the post's list)
- Work only inside the post's work zone (radius 10-300 m, set in the post window; the zone is
drawn on the ground while the window is open)
- Carry the wood to the post when their inventory is 90% full; wait by the post if its storage
is full
- Choose which tree species to cut (per woodcutter)
- Follow rolling logs downhill and chop them from any side
- Walk around rocks, trees, buildings and cliffs on the way; regenerate health; don't get
stuck forever on unreachable trees
- E - its inventory, Shift + E - its settings (start/stop, species, dismiss)
- Post upgrades (once per world - survive tearing the post down and rebuilding it)
| Level | Woodcutters | Upgrade cost | Hire cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | - | 50 coins |
| 2 | 2 | 10 surtling cores | 100 coins |
| 3 | 3 | 20 surtling cores | 200 coins (re-hire: 100) |
- Woodcutter list in the post window: state, axe durability, inventory fill, distance;
start/stop each one, stop all and call them to the post, start all
- Live map pins for every woodcutter, and a death pin on the loot chest if one dies (the chest
breaks once emptied)
- Automatic axe repair (a box in the post window, per post): a woodcutter whose axe breaks
repairs it at the post, paying 30% of the axe's main crafting material only (stone for a
stone axe, flint for flint, bronze for bronze - no wood or leather) from the post's storage.
The cost of each woodcutter's axe is shown in its settings window
- Notifications when an axe drops to 5%, when it breaks, and when a post's storage is full
- Dismissing a woodcutter puts its axe and belongings into the post's storage
- Languages: English, Ukrainian, Russian - follows the game's language, or set it in the config
Getting started
- Build a Woodcutter's Post with the hammer.
- Shift + E on the post → Hire a woodcutter. It appears next to the post, stopped.
- E on the woodcutter → put an axe in its first slot (the one with the faded axe).
- Shift + E on the woodcutter → Start.
If you use a mod that remaps the alternative interaction (e.g. Zen ModLib's single key, Q by
default), use that key instead of Shift + E.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
